Location: Tychy, Poland | Hi.
in last few weeks i've started to feel pain in my left hand while playing (especially fast parts on electric).
This pain bothers me much more now than two weeks ago, and i don't know what to do. after yesterday practice i had big pain also in right hand, and today morning i couldn't write anything because my right hand was shaking.
did anyone experience something like this?
i feel some pain all day, and it's getting worse after few minutes of playing on electric, or on acoustic - fingerstyle. When i strum and use basic chords only, nothing happens, but anything harder makes me feel that pain.
it starts in my wrist and while i play, it goes all the way to fingers.
i've forgot to add. Pain in right hand appeared only one time and now i feel ok. |

you may also follow cliff's suggestions and massage your wife regularly. and if you can't massage the one you love, massage the one you're with. |

actually the massage i mentioned above usually works the first time you try it. some cases take a day or two longer. use this method for prevention also. |

Well I was going to say that I wouldn't touch that line with a ten foot pole; but that may be insensitive...and its not politically correct either...but since when has anyone here been politically correct? Or sensitive for that matter? 23, not married, pain in hands/wrists/arms? Hmmmmm...sounds like self abuse to me...you could go blind!
(lol, naw...) (BTW, like the new name...but it sounds framiliar...)
  ;) |

i have a long-time girlfriend, so i don't think it's from self abuse ;-)
i think i'll play more on my O, less on electric for now (Ovation has much more comfortable neck), maybe after few days pain will be gone. |

If you spend much time on the computer or doing other repetitive tasks, like guitar playing, you could have carpal tunnel or a similar condition involving the elbow.
They make wrist braces which are available here in the states pretty cheaply and in the grocery store or pharmacy. They are probably easily available in where you live, too. Wearing a wrist brace, especially while sleeping and using the computer, can help a lot. |

I had corrective surgery on the right hand about two years ago, and it looks like the left is going under the knife pretty soon also. The surgery aint all that bad, but recovery time with no guitar playing sucks. I guess I could teach myself how to play using my feet, like the armless guitar player dude. |

Location: Tychy, Poland | hm. i work on computer 8-10 hours a day + 2-4 hours of guitar playing. i will read more about this syndrome. the biggest problem for me is that most of my playing on electric guitar was based on speed of my left hand, and now i have problems with coordination, and i can't keep up the tempo with band.
shit happens. |

I also soak my hands and wrists in warm water with epson Salts -it eases the pain ---- works every time. Play on :) |

shit happens. David Gilmour said that the reason why he plays all those cool slow riffs is cuz he cannot play fast! :D
I was reading this thread, and thinking that you cannot have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome at 23, You're way too young!
That was until I read what you do for a living! Sorry!
I'm getting pains from my age... Sometimes my hands get stiff, but that is mostly the beginnings of arthritis!
I take Gilmour's advice...
I also soak my hands in warm water.
But I don't know if that would do anything for your wrists.
Have you tried Advil? (neproxin)(spl chk) |

i don't know what is advil.
i've been using traumon up to this day.
i think i've found solution for my problems, and his name is Kuba (Jacob) who is my new co-worker. That man has incredible talent and i think he will take my place in band, and maybe i'll switch to more rythm playing.
i have never seen person who enjoys playing that much. he's full of positive energy and he probably has ADHD... but... i don't know anyone else who could learn to play on hurdy gurdy in 5 minutes.
i will go to doctor on monday. |

Location: ms | There is some good info over at the UMGF. Look under "General Musical Topics". Sounds like you may have tendonitis. I`ve been dealing with arthritis and tendon trouble for over ten years. The bad news is they told me then i had about ten years playing time in my hands, the good news is they tell me now i should have ten more but i may be facing surgery. It may never go away but you can get some relief. |

i went to doctor, he diagnosed it as a "drastic tendon inflammation" and he prescripted me some medicines. and i shall not play aggresively on guitar for at least 2 weeks :-( |

Location: Tychy, Poland | i will sell my electrics, because none of them could match - comfort wise - neck of my Legend.
when i was in guitar shop today i've found very good guitar (for it's price) with very thin neck - it's a samick Torino 4 [or sth like this] - duncand designed humbuckers, gold grover tuners etc, and all for less than 400$ (at first, there was no price sticked to this guitar and i thought it's at least 3 times more expensive).
i think i'll buy it, throw out that "duncan designed" humbuckers, throw in "regular" seymour duncans, both with ability to split coils.
btw.
now i know why that strat i've sold was worth so much - i didn't even feel that i was playing on it. now i feel every single note :-( |
