Location: south east Michigan | I gots buckets of respect for Allison Krauss.
However... Last weekends "leaf-peeping" trip in norhtern Michigan found us listening to the country station. Actually, that's about all you can get up there. Anyway, we heard this Gawd-awful, cry in your beer duet called "He Put The Bottle To His Head & Pulled The Trigger" and they found him next day face down in the "piller". He drinks hinself to death pineing over her and little does he know that she is drinking herself to death over him. And yes... they also find her, "face down on the piller".
I was appauled to hear it was Allison Krauss singing the girl part. |

Not because I like it, mind you...I just can't get to the radio dial quick enough. |

I'll have to say I really like both of these artist but the single I listened to didn't seem to reflect the best of either's potential. I was WAY disappointed. Maybe it gets better from there. |

I learned that song, Whiskey Lullaby, after I heard Melonie Cannon's rendition, which is a far, far better thing than what Paisley/Krauss did. It's a great song, but I agree that it was diminished, very unexpectedly, in the version on Krauss' album. It's the only thing I've heard her do that I didn't really care for, maybe because I liked Cannon's version so much, but I think somehow Krauss' magic formula got messed up on that track. |

As far as the off topic bash of Whiskey Lullaby, the song was 2005 CMA Song of the year. It was co-written by Bill Anderson and Jon Randall. If you have not heard Jon Randall's recorded version you are missing out. Visit www.jonrandall.com if you are interested. |

That being said.... There are a good number of country songs I do like. And I'll keep my ears open for more. |

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | I am a big Allison Krauss fan, and the album "100 Miles or More" that "Wiskey Lullabye" is on, for the most part is a tremendous album. But I really never liked this song from the first time I heard it...( I did listen to the Jon Randall's version: a bit better, but the whole premise of the song sucks! ( ) well it just does...
But the one on the album that will make you look for a high bridge is "Jacob's Dream" a mornful, ultra depressing song about two lost children who died in the cold when no one could find them...You won't need the "Bottle" after this one...
That said, "Lay Down Beside Me" the new duet w/John Waite is fantastic; definatly the best on the CD...And the lap steel work by Jerry Douglas is so great...what tone... |

The -only- version of that song that I find tolerable is Melonie Cannon's, and I liked hers enough to learn the song. There is an on-line clip available at

The lyrics and story of that song are a bit different than most, but that's okay by me. ;)

I agree that the rest of that CD is good. I like some of her others better, actually, and Jacob's Dream is just about too depressing to listen to... ;) |

While I have not heard them all (6-7 tunes) I have liked "most" of them. I felt the others missed by a mile (but then most CD's are like that these days).
Interesting team up and not all that bad.
Of what I have heard, I would rate it a 7.5 - 8.5 |
