So this is relevent to this board Im sure that many famous starting musicians lived on SPAM for many years until they got their break.
I for one would still be eating SPAM if I would of kept playing music for a living. GWB |

What is SPAM® made of? SPAM® Classic is made of just a few simple ingredients. Ham, pork, sugar, salt, water, a little potato starch, and a mere hint of sodium nitrite to help SPAM® keep its color. Sounds delicious, and it is.
What’s the difference between ham and pork?
Ham and pork are different cuts of meat. The ham is technically taken from the upper rear leg of the hog. While pork can describe meat from several different delicious cuts. Unless you’re talking about bacon. Because bacon is just bacon.
What is sodium nitrite? A tiny amount of sodium nitrite is used to help SPAM® keep its gorgeous pink color. Without it, all pork items would turn gray. And no one wants that. Bacon, salami, ham, and so many other delicious items contain small amounts of sodium nitrite. It should really be renamed “pinkification.”
Where is the SPAM® family of products made? There are several known SPAM™ factories around the world. Austin, Minnesota, and Fremont, Nebraska supply SPAM® to all of North America, South America, and Australia. The rest of the world gets their SPAM® from Denmark, the Philippines, or South Korea.
How do you eat SPAM®?
That’s the beauty of SPAM® – there’s so many ways to eat it! It’s cooked in the can, so it’s ready to eat as soon as you open it. And there’s so many ways to heat it up. Fry it, grill it, bake it, zap it with a laser cannon. While most people probably make a SPAM® sandwich on white bread, there are thousands of SPAM® recipes available online. across the nation.
What’s the best way to eat SPAM®?
This may be the toughest question in the world. It’s like asking what kind of music is the best – everyone will have their own opinion. That’s part of the beauty of SPAM®, there’s so many great ways to eat it. The most popular way to eat SPAM®, however, seems to be frying it up in a pan and putting it in a sandwich.
How long does SPAM® last? I
n a perfect situation, SPAM® could last forever. Just like so many other canned foods, as long as no air gets into the can, the vacuum sealed goodness inside will be as delicious and safe as the day it was made. It’s like meat with a pause button.
Who eats SPAM®? Bajillions of people around the world eat SPAM®. Since 1937, 6 billion cans of SPAM® have been sold. And the 7 billion mark will be coming soon. In the United States alone, over 90 million cans are sold per year. It is a taste sensation
Where can I get SPAM®?
SPAM® is available in practically every grocery and convenience store across America. You can buy SPAM® online. You can buy SPAM® in many foreign countries. Someday, you will be able to get SPAM® on every colonized planet in the Federation. It is more important to ask where you will put the SPAM®: in your tummy.
When was SPAM® invented?
1937. SPAM® luncheon meat was enormously popular even before it got sent off to war in 1941. It is the creation of Jay Hormel, who found a perfect way to package delicious pork shoulder meat so all that amazing flavor didn’t go to waste. Billions and billions of cans later, the SPAM® love is stronger than ever.
Who named SPAM®?
Ken. A man named Ken was crowned the official namer of SPAM®. Jay Hormel, the father of SPAM®, held a contest to help find a name for this most delicious meat. SPAM® was selected and Ken received a $100 prize. Hooray for Ken. Without him, we might be eating something called Crinkycrinky or Canned Flappertanknibbles.
What does SPAM® taste like?
While many people ponder how to put the taste of SPAM® into words, it has been a difficult task. Some would say meaty. Some would say salty goodness. Some would say superfantastic ultra-mega-awesome. We believe the best way to describe the taste of is simple. “Crazy Tasty®.”
Does SPAM® mean “spiced ham?”
While some speculate that the name came from mashing the two words together, SPAM® has come to mean so much more than simply “spiced ham.” While SPAM® does certainly include ham and spices, the term “spiced ham” simply doesn’t paint the right picture of what SPAM® really is. So in the end, SPAM® means SPAM®. For real.
Did SPAM® win WWII?
While many credit SPAM® with helping save the lives of thousands who received humanitarian aid during the war, and our soldiers ate a luncheon meat similar to SPAM®, it is truly the heroism of our veterans that won the war. Hormel Foods is proud to have been able to help.

So why aren't you defending the State food?
Just a coincidence but I was arranging some books yesterday and ran across all of the Spam Cookbooks I picked up while in Hawaii.
Here's a few...

i cannot, with a good conscience, defend something that can cause or contribute to premature death, colon cancer, obesity, cardiac troubles and inflated medical insurance premiums. |

Scrapple is a savory mush in which cornmeal and flour, often buckwheat flour, are simmered with pork scraps and trimmings, then formed into a loaf. Small scraps of meat left over from butchering, too small to be used or sold elsewhere, were made into scrapple to avoid waste. Scrapple is best known as a regional food of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland.

I recently saw the turkey Spam in the supermarket and wondered to myself "who the heck would eat that?" Compared to the stuff eaten by Steve, turkey Spam is healthful gourmet cuisine. |

I grew up eating Spam both on the Mainland (OK, MI, IL, MD, VA) and Hawaii, because my parents didn't have cable TV so instead they had six kids, which they had to feed. I LOVED it! Still do! My Dad used to ruin it by frying it and slathering it with orange marmalade...BLECCH!
While living in the Land of Aloha, I learned how to eat and make Spam musubi: a slice of fried Spam, a little teriyaki sauce, some furukake seasonings on top of a small cake of rice and rolled up in a little sheet of seaweed: Ono-licious, brah!
Come over to my house for Thanksgiving and I always have turkey, macaroni salad, kalua pork (that shredded pig like you get at the luau) and Spam roll - fried julienned Spam rolled up like California roll sushi!

Yeah! And I have always wondered why they don't put something that tastes nasty in that... JERKS! OK, now we're waaaay OT, but here's the reason. Antifreeze is ethylene glycol. There is no way to take the "sweet" taste out of ethylene glycol because it's chemical structure stimulates the sweet taste buds. It's toxic, but chemically is very similar to gycerine and propylene glycol both of which are safe to consume and used as sweeteners. |
