Location: Ray City Georgia | Hi, Ken here. I just found the forum and joined today.
In 1975 I bought a new Deacon. Several years later I traded I sold it. I have never quiet got over that guitar!
I can't locate one but have found a fine looking Preacher for sale. It is a Preacher Deluxe from the 1975-1982 era, according to the serial number.
It has gold hardware, the early style bridge and 1 output jack.
I am interested in it, but it will be a purchase from afar! So, I cannot check it out first.
My questions:
Were these in fact active electronic guitars like my old Deacon? I found a manual for a standard Preacher and its schematics show standard pickups.
Is the neck similar? |

Location: Scotland | The Preacher Deluxe circuitry is identical to the Deacon/Breadwinner, with the exception the the PD has an additional series/parallel switch for each pickup. The standard Preacher is similar to the Preacher Deluxe only in shape, it has standard wiring without active electronics. |

Location: Ray City Georgia | Thanks! Looks like I am going to take the plunge. It is a beauty by the pictures. Looks like $650.00 with original case.
I was hoping it was close in sound to the Preacher! Looks like it will be as good and a few more tonal options. Here is what she looks like:

Location: GA USA | notfenderonlyforlong, you should think about swinging down to Orlando on the 27th to jam at Designzilla's. A short drive from Ray City, and then I wouldn't be the only Georgian. You could come play a Deacon, a Breadwinner, a Viper, a Ute, a #47RI... and we could play your Preacher! |

Location: Ray City Georgia | Darn, wish I could be there! We are headed to Oregon and I am having the Preacher shipped there. Back to Wagoner , OK on Nov 1,2,3 for a Western Swing music fest!!!
I just made the purchase. I feel it was a good price for the guitar. I can't see them doing anything but going up in value.
I can't wait to plug here into an older Fender amp.
I just built a 5F1 (late 50's Champ) with a head style cab and a 12" extension speaker. Also I have a 5E3 (Deluxe, 1955) I built, a 1965 Deluxe (non-reverb Blackface with a JBL/Fender SIgnature Series speaker I restored) and a 1969 Super Reverb I restored. |

Location: NW Washington State | The Preacher Deluxe should be pretty close to the Deacon and very different from your Fenders. A Viper would be more Fender-ish. The musicgoround Viper looks like it's reasonably priced.
There are instructions for the preamp here: http://www.ovationtribute.com/Owner\'s%20Manual.html Look for the Breadwinner manuals. It will take you a while to get used to all the options!
I like to adjust the controls on the back of the preamp with a plastic screwdriver. With a metal screwdriver I always touch some other part of the circuit and make a nasty noise. Be gentle when you replace the batteries- it's a pain to replace those 9V battery clips.

Location: enid, ok | That's the first one I've seen with the pre-amp. Do UK II's have the pre-amp? I was told that they do, but I've seen no evidence of this. |
