Location: Muenster/Germany | Some time ago I had an Ovation Artist guitar with the VT-6 bracing and I was quite impressed of the projection of the top. Now I´ve seen in old Ovation catalog that the very first Custom Legend models had a bracing called "VT 11". I knew that the early legend guitars had a VT 8 bracing but never heard of the VT 11 before.
Does anyone still have an old 1119 from the "pre-A-braced-era" and can tell something about how the guitars sound? My Artist guitar had a broad midrange but the 1119 is supposed to be even better because it should have the deep bowl (the Artist was a shallow)
and the Custom Legend guitars had the best spruce tops. |

Location: Yokohama, Japan | Hey DetlefMichel, I don't have a 1119, but my 1117 has VT-11 bracing. It also had a strange cleat that was used to (I think?) enhance the sparkling higher frequencies. It's my most Martin-"esque" O, and I really love its huge unique sound. Hears the thread about the VT-11+cleat. Interestingly OFC member "standing" has an 1117 with the same interesting "cleat". Probably not exactly what you're looking for, but for what it's worth...

Location: Muenster/Germany | Thanks Arumako, I knew your post ( I think I know them all...). I aslked this because I feel it remarkable how different Oavtion guitars have been built but superficially they look the same. My favourite wood-topped OV´s are the A-braced ones. |

The Legends of the 70's were braced with VT11 bracing, the GC Artists with VT8, and the Artists with VT6. What the difference was, damned if I know. I never thought any of them sounded all that good. To my ear, Ovations of th 60's (X braced), and the models after the VT's (A braced) sounded the best. Just an opinion...... |
