Yeah, it is one of those threads. And I should know better... But here we go.

I have a CC059 Nylon string Celebrity coming.
Hey, I figured that I might play around with a nylon string guitar for a bit.
So, what brand/gauge Nylon Strings do you use?

Thank You for the advice.

Hi OMA... Wow, another nice find. How much did you pay for the CC059? That's one of the higher-end Celebrity nylons, right? Like my CS249-4Y that's a 14 Fretter (I think). If so, you should probably go with high-tension strings. I like the D'addario Pro Arte EJ46s. Savarez Corum #504Js comes highly recommended by moody, p.i. I tried some on my CS249-4Y at his recommendation and really liked them. I slightly prefer the D'addarios - to my ears they seem to respond a bit clearer through a PA/Amp. Nylon strings are rich in tradition like the guitars they resonate, and there are some really high-end makers from Europe that make some incredible strings too, but if you're looking for some regular down to earth stuff, I think you can't go wrong with the Daddys and Savarez. Oh, and if you really like a tighter brighter nylon sound, you might want to try some extra high-tension strings. Hope this helps!

P.S. - gonna hold-off on the Folklore...probably gonna regret it, but just can't afford it at this time! Bummer!

Hi Arthur.. I've had some Martin M260's on my nylon Celeb 013 for about 10 weeks and they are playing well and decently holding tune. The wound strings are 80/20 bronze and the tension is medium. These are ball end since I needed that type for a slight issue with the bridge, but you can snip the beads and tie them if you want. Nothing awfully fancy, but good for the price range. Seems they were around $7.00 at SAB. I tried some silver plated D'adds of the same gauge before these, but didn't much care for them like I do their strings on steel guitars.

OMA...I have owned a 1616, a 1624 and an EA Viper...not sure what you are looking for, in terms of response...if you are going to plug in...anything sounds good. If you are just going to play it acoustically, just buy a decent string. For some reasons, and it just may be me... Ovations are not as responsive to nylon strings, as their wooden brethren. So whatever string you may buy, imo, will sound just fine on that guitar.

Of course ymmv...and I am sure others will disagree. Some Savarez 500s or EJ45 D'Addarios should work just fine.

They are a pain to string...so switch out a couple of times and let us know what you think about it.

I ordered a set of Albert Augustine Red Label, and a set of Gold Label.

I had bought Martin strings for a beater $13 Hohner Nylon that I got at Goodwill and gave to a Street Person.
Now that I typed that, I remember what happened to those spare Nylon strings that I bought...
I gave them away with that guitar.
I did make the guy prove that he could play before I gave it to him. Was that mean of me?

I love this guitar.... the cedar top helps the voicing IMO.... Would like to hear what strings you land on. I have been just picking the standard DAddario EJ46's and am about 2 sets away from venturing off to something different.

NGD-- I got the guitar today. I am just using the strings that came with it.
I am clumsy with the nylon strings. (moreso than regular strings)  Here is a demonstration:

I do. I had to switch to ball end on one guitar because of a bridge issue. A total installation breeze compared to tied, and the tuning stabilized sooner too. If traditional classical players want to scoff at them that's fine, scoff. I'm not exactly a traditional nylon player, but I am exactly happy.

I got two sets of Martin M260 Ball-end strings coming.
I also got two sets of Albert Augustine tie-em strings already here.
I haven't gotten around to changing the strings that came with the CC059.
The ones that came on it still work.

If it matters...really good classical strings do not come with a ball. Some guys just do not want the metal ball end digging into their bridge. So these puppies were developed ... in bone!  They look as *** as ball ends on a classical...but if you want to save a couple of minutes stringing...there are options.

Just one word to say:

Thomastik - PJ116 John Pearse

Have them on my Country Artist and love them. Feel of Silk and Steel with tension of Nylons.

Picture? Here you go:

Best regards,
Kurt

I would like something that moves a classical guitar a step or two toward the steel sound, and from all I've read they are clearly the option to choose for that. Definitely not typical orthodox classical strings by construction either, that's for sure. I think I'll order some on your recommendation. I can live with silver-coated bass strings if the sound is good, but the downshot for me is that I've never had silver-coated strings that don't discolor at the frets, and I assume these will too. Do yours?

Just a update.
I still have not changed the strings on this guitar.
I just checked my ball-end Martin M260 Strings...
The balls on the wound strings are brass.
The balls on the nylon strings are plastic.

One thing that I do want to mention...
This Celebrity CC059 is pretty Loud with a Super Shallow Bowl and Nylon Strings.
Not only is it loud in the privacy of my room, but it is Loud outdoors.
It is a cool little toy.

Since the black balls on the M260s are really nothing more than plastic beads that can be easily slid off the open end of the nylon strings, I replaced mine with gold beads to color/metal match the ones on the wound strings-- with credit to my wife for donating a pair of small-beaded earrings to the project.

Sorry, forgot about the thread. Nope, mine never did, and I play them exclusively on this guitar. But I have really dry hands.

Yep. Regular Country Artist with a CL body. Afterwards I upgraded tuners...
