Hi,
I'm Japanese and live in Japan.
I bought 1994 collector's edition used.

I very like it.
But recentry , I dropped it.
Its varnish of top board was cracked.
(see attached photo)
I try to paint gloss varnish my self for stopping more crack.

Anyone knows maker and product of gloss varnish that can be painted.
Give me information.

Hi Ohbi,

This will not be an easy repair.

You probably won't find a brush-able finish that will be thin enough to wick down into the cracks.

A lot of people have good luck using thin CA glue. It will wick down into the crack and will help make these cracks disappear.

It will probably take several applications of the glue to completely fill the cracks.

Once the cracks are filled you'll need to sand the excess glue so it's level with the surrounding finish, then sand the area with finer grades of sandpaper.

After that, you can use some buffing compound to polish the finish.

Dan

Can the excess CA glue be removed with acetone?

Acetone does dissolve CA. Since the acetone won't affect the polyester finish, then this might be a better way to remove the excess glue instead of standing.

Thank you.
I may use CA glue.
But I have never done such repair work.
I will only do simple repairs.
