I saw an Ovation factory tour video on youtube where you could at long last see some of the people who built our Ovations (maybe one of mine? like the late "geostorm"?), but is there a more or less complete book or website where I can see the names - and faces? Just like a school´s almanac? Would be nice to know who is behind the story. I don´t even know how John Budny looks like, was he in the video? I´m not sure.
If there was a new Ovation book one day this should be chapter one.

Cool pic, Nancy. Thanks for posting! But.. but.. you forgot to name the guitar :-)

Oh.. and it strikes me odd that a guy would be standing in the Ovation plant in a Guild t-shirt. Maybe the laundry hamper was full that day.

Picture might have been taken during the brief time they made Guilds in New Hartford.

I think Hamer guitars also were made there for a short time.

Thank you for posting this, Nancy. These guys look just like the ones who know what to do.
The guitar appears to be a one-off custom legend custom colour 7. Never seen before. Another recommended guitar for our "shopping list".

The USA Hamers were produced in a moderately sized area on the second floor of the New Hartford factory. After touring this area with Jol Dantzig and seeing the quality they put into these guitars, I had to order my own. Jol featured the building of my custom on his Hamer blog back then to demonstrate the installation of the abalone purfling I had ordered. There was also some collaboration between Hamer and Ovation when the VXT models were being produced. It was just the coolest custom guitar shop ever and the Hamer models were top shelf guitars. Once Fender took over, everything came tumbling down. So sad.

It was very surprising to see how small the space was wherein the Adamas models were being produced. It was really not much bigger than a two car garage, if that. A number of us had ordered Al’s OFC I model which were in production at the time. I remember Moody checking out several in an upright rack and hollering back to me, “Hey, Brad, you ordered No. 5 right? Here it is!” Very cool indeed.

This picture was taken last week, John is the Sweetest Man you would ever want to meet, and is as knowledgeable as he is kind!

The guitar is a Custom Custom Legend, 1619-1 Burst, a 1980 (if I remember correctly) with a Custom Claro Walnut top, not laminate. It is a Dream Machine that I worked on for almost 2 years with John, and she is ready to come home. Mike Scherer did the face and the abalone edging, and Mike DeNoi did the neck and the custom inlay in the first position on the fretboard! And she sports hand engraved Waverly gold tuning machines.

I will post a few more pics that they sent me, but I plan on framing this picture and hanging it above the Guitar! Kind of Special to know who made your Dream Come True!!

Oh my Nancy! I think I just drooled. Congratulations to this awesome christmas present to yourself. Now I can understand why you passed on some of those other wonderful Ovations that have become available. This is just absolutely stunning, and I hope you will let us know how she sounds soon.

Drool... puddles and puddles of it. When I said you forgot to name the guitar, I didn't realize that you were actually going to NAME the guitar. So incredibly unique and beautiful! Congratulations on the completion of your project. I will notify the marching band to stand by for its delivery.

I was a little hesitant to post about it, as it is not a commonly accepted face wood.

Nancy,

What a beautiful soundboard. It is stunning. Were they handpicked for you? I was just waiting to read that they came from a 200-year-old tree, that was in your backyard, that lightning took out and will match your 16' dining room table.

All those Ovations in the NanCave will have some serious wood envy.

Beautiful guitar Nancy. I recently acquired an old nylon string with walnut back and sides and like what it did for the tone. I'm all for trying different tone woods.

Thank You Arumako!!!

I picked out the Walnut on line from an Oregon based Company, when I saw it, I just Knew! And even at 1/4" thick, the tap-tone and sustain were Excellent! Patch had shared his knowledge of Walnut with me when I saw his Claro Walnut O, 12 string (GORGEOUS Guitar Custom made at the Mothership for Patch). So when I found the piece(s) I wanted, I sent the picture and description to John B and he approved it, and told me how to have them cut it for their use!

I can't wait to hear it, from what I am hearing, it is AMAZING!

And CONGRATULATIONS on getting your new Baby Home Safely!!!
