Yes, I have been unlucky both with the 87C and the 1537..
I can understand that. I am also a great 1619 addict, and the Elite guitars are completely different. They don´t have the "boom" of an A-braced CL, but the balance is better. I must say that I use Thomastik .11-.50 strings on the 6 string Ovations. They have a very low tension but a soft, clear and very precise intonation, unlike any other string. I recently tried new phosphor bronze strings on the 1537, but with bad results, the low E strings are much too tight and produce Bass but no TONE, hard to explain.
I found out that in general the high quality Ovations (CL, Adamas) seem to work better with the lighter strings, but this may be due to my personal playing style. If I want to play little harder I use Martin.
I carefully inspected your collection and read the descriptions, I don´t think you would be thoroughly happy with the 87, this is not your guitar.
But you should start to play 12strings, that´s what I´m telling all of you, who are looking for new guitar horizons. Go for a 1688 and you won´t touch any 6string guitar for a long time. |

Location: Milano, ITALY | 12 strings are way too many to tune and change :-) Anyway I have various guitars I am totally happy with, the A3, the natural Anniversary, the A2-9, the Blue Boy, the Gold A, etcetera. I generally string them with Martin or with the new Galli ph-b 012 strings. The good guitars deliver a good tone (to my ears, obviously) with the 012. And they are all great fun :-) |

I often play an Ovation doubleneck 6&12string with different tunings on both necks and different/partial capos, so I am quite seasoned with tuning and string changing;-)
I must confess that change strings on a 12string slothead (and I have 3) is not as sexy as it sounds.
But my 6 string guitars make fun, too. |

I must have been completely out of my mind to think about selling the 87c.
I played it quite often in the last days and I will better keep that wonderful guitar. I sold some "other" guitars instead and stick with my Ovations. |
