Rumors of his death have been greatly exaggerated before.
Now I will be thinking of him while I butcher Ramblin' Man

Location: When?? | Memories of Gregg Allman-- I got two speeding tickets in one night (dumb teenager). First was in Emeryville, CA at the same moment Patty Hearst was being kidnapped just a short distance away. "Midnight Rider" was on the radio during that one. A few hours later, blasting along the Great Highway on the west edge of San Francisco with no lesson learned, I got nabbed again. "Ramblin' Man" was on the radio during that one. I pretty much swore off the Allman Brother Band after that.. lol. Seriously, though, we have lost yet another great piece of deeply-trenched Americana with his passing. Truly a unique master of his craft and genre. |

Location: SoCal | Ovation/Glen Campbell twist to Allman's story. The A braced 1117 Legend that Glen Campbell played from 1974 to 1976 was originally meant for and shown to Gregg Allman. He got an Ovation 12 string instead and the Legend went to Campbell who loved it. |

I gracefully disappeared after the disaster my participation here became. Following the last of 18 major surgeries I was in pain management for three years. Industrial grade narcotics every month freely at my disposal. I followed the usual trajectory straight into full blown abuse. After it became apparent my personality had deteriorated to the point I was alienating everyone around me I put myself through grueling withdrawals and stopped cold turkey. I read an article by a street junkie who said that was the only effective way to get off drugs. Since becoming clear headed I try to look back on my brief insanity with a humorous perspective. If I don't the guilt would consume me. I lurk here to keep up with what's happening. However some here are fond of citing my past transgressions, none of which I can deny. They shock me to go back and read I'll freely admit. I would submit however the same thing could happen to anybody who spent 3 years on monthly doubling dosages of Oxycontin courtesy of an overly exuberant pain mgt doc. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming..... |

Location: Seacoast NH | Just saw the loss of Jimmy Lafave as well. He did a duet with my cousin Stephanie Corby of Carl Cacho's "Bluest of Things" on one of her albums that is hauntingly beautiful. What a unique and soulful singer he was -- right up there with Gregg. RIP to both.

You're a hoot. Actually all I left behind with Gregg was a denim coat he kept telling me how much he liked. It had a guitar strap embroidered with red thread on black sewn around the waist of it. I went on Gregg's website awhile back to ask if anyone had ever seen it and to ask for it back. Offered to pick it up in person. No luck. |
