Location: Long Island, N.Y. | Bought this from Dan who was great to deal with. Thanks Dan! I replaced tuners with Gold/ Brown pearloid buttons these are Japanese Made Jin Ho Tuners. To me the Best tuners I have ever used. Total re-fret and end of fret board raised to where it should be. Aniline dye gave me the color, The top is hand rubbed finish. Just wanted to share.

Location: When?? | Maybe wrong, but I'm pretty sure Nancy has a 1976 CL just like that one. In fact, I think it's the one she used to make her OFC avatar pic we are all so familiar seeing next to her posts. |

Location: Long Island, N.Y. | Thanks Folks.. Yes this one has a forward X-Bracing, Op Pro Preamp, New carved walnut bridge, New Ovation pickup, Bear claw Top. Guitar looks nicer in person. The neck inlays for their age just have such a 3D look to them, Beautiful! |

Do you think that the x-bracing is the better? Did you have the chance to compare an old one with yours (which I like very much, my custom guitars all have bearclaws, but-fan braces). Isn´t this an Ovation with "Martin" sound? I´m quite curious about that. |

WRT how it sounds, it actually sounds a lot like the LX-braced guitars. The forward shift gives a little more volume. Shifting it away from the bridge and toward the sound hole allows the top to be more responsive. There's actually several other changes besides just moving the braces closer to the sound hole. moody p.i. and I met up after I re-topped this guitar to compare his 1978 1117 to this guitar.
He had sent his guitar back to the MS to re-top and change the braces from the VT-11 to an A-brace.

Crappy singer, but I really liked the guitar. It was similar to my A braced Legend, but to my ears, it had a little more depth and a little more in the balls department. A little different than any other Ovation I've ever played. I liked it a lot and could be very tempted to have Dan re-top an old beat up Legend, if I could scrape the money together (have to find the guitar too!). When Ovation came out with the LX, they got close to this, but this is what they should have done at that time. Deep bowl and this bracing, I think on sound alone, they would have kicked *** Here's the LX brace pattern. 
Here's the brace pattern I used on this guitar. As you can see, they're similiar, but with subtle differences to the location and angle of the X-braces and tone bars. This guitar also uses a rosewood bridge plate instead of the maple one used on the LX-braces.

I agree! Adamas excluded, those mid-Seventies CL's have *it* more than any other woodtop Ovation!!! And those Thomastik Lights are Incredible!! If you listen to the Oldies, Jim Croce, America, Paul Simon, sooooooo many others, you can hear the *Ovation Sound* the minute they start playing it! I used to love to single out the Ovation Players on the radio, you could always tell right away! |

Maybe the old CL are so good because the braces had been made so tweedy - greater surface!
