I was wondering whether it's been attempted before to upgrade a non-Ovation, all-wood guitar -- such as classics like a Gibson J-45, J-200 or a Martin -- with Ovation electronics.

I'm asking because Ovation is lightyears ahead of other brands in terms of electronics, and I'd love to have one of those guitars with an Ovation pickup and preamp for recording, etc.

Thoughts?

I would try with a slimline Pickup and an Optima or 24+ preamp.
I don't know if the new OP-Pro-Series preamps will fit the body of a foreign guitar.....

I have used a Direct-out CP100 Slimline pickup in a Morgan Monroe woodbox.
Those pickups are used in Takamine guitars.

As to the preamp... Two knob systems, single knob and stacked knob would not be a problem.
But fitting a kidney shaped OP- can into the waist of a woodbox might be difficult.

Good Luck and Post Pics.
