To my knowledge in the early days they numbered all their guitars (independent from model/acoustic/electric) as follows:

0 - 2999
A000 - A999
B000 - B999
C000 - .... and so on.

So it seems your Storm was Ovation #4088. Nobody really knows exactly how many guitars of each model were made. But I read some speculations on this board you may find in the archive.

B-088 is a perfectly acceptable serial number. As per the Reference Section of the site

http://www.ovationfanclub.com/serials.asp

B plus 3-digits = Nov 1968 - Feb 1969

The best I can tell, is the B is maybe a second run, or possible what happened when they go to A-999.

The B just means that it came after A and before C.
