Location: USA | So I was able to acquire a 1975 1114-4 Folklore. This little gem was well taken care of. There is literally not a scratch, blemish, or ding to be found. The action is good and the neck appears to be straight. The only concern I have is the bridge is a little low, looking like it may have been shaved down at some point. I took a straight edge ruler and checked from the frets to the bridge and it hits a hair below the bridge.
Does anyone have an opinion on whether or not I should use an in hole humidifier? I live in North Florida where the current temp at night is around 40 degrees and it is dry.
Thanks for all advice and opinions! Steve.

Reading the title of your post, I just naturally assumed it was from Weaser...

Location: USA | I think that Ovation simply used the same plastic shafts for both nylon string and steel string 1114's until around 1975. After that they started using metal shafts for the steel string models. |

That's what I remember, too, except for the last of the nylon shafts were in 1977, which is when my Folklore was made. |

The shaft is rotating in the brass bushing and not in the wood.... They will go as smooth as no other tuners. Ah, and take the small ones, they have a better gear ratio.....

Put the bushings ( they are delivered with the new tuners) into the holes (allmost posiblle with your fingers) and install the new tuners with the 4 little screws. That's it! |

Location: Germany, where delicious wine is growing (Rheinh) | BTW, these are my favorite guitars. Mine is made in '74, also in great shape, upgraded with the newest generation of pickups and preamps with XLR and the tuners in gold with the bushings....
Congrats for yours, Steveomatic! Hope you will love it too.

Location: Boise, Idaho | I'm with you, Bernie. I found mine on ebay just after I found the OFC. The prior owner was told that it was a nylon string guitar and couldn't figure out how to get the nylon strings on it. He thought there was something wrong with the guitar and apparently everyone else did to, because I got it for $305. It was perfect, except for some fret wear (someone apparently knew how to use it) and a loose brace that I easily fixed. They sound like I think Ovations should sound. I like the old preamps. Simple. A built in tuner would be nice, but a Snark works great for that. |

$305! Jeez...that's better than a Disney Princess story! What a gorgeous find, Steveomatic! Congratulations. You just never come across those over here in Japan. Awesome! |

Here are some Folklore tuners on eBay from Al. (Last One)
I don't know if these come with the bushings. You would have to as Al.

I think Al's have no bushings included. I think the gold ones for classical guitars had them and the Mini M6 tuners in gold with the carved plates and without the plastic sleeves had them as well...
