Location: Frozen Tundra of Minnesota | I have to share the New Bling I got for my 1719 Custom Legend!
I had wanted to do this for my Custom when the Shop is ready, but I wanted one now, and my 1719 does not have a TRC!!
This is my Buddy "JJ", and I worked with Bill Nichols to get it just exactly the way I wanted it! He made suggestions, we talked woods, and inlays, and then we were set to go!
I can't tell you how thrilled I was to get it in the mail today, and wanted to share!

I'm sure it will bring a smile to your face every time you notice it, and that's one of the goals of good bling. |

Location: Frozen Tundra of Minnesota | Thank You so much for sharing my excitement!!!
Bill Nichols is located in Maryland, and here is his website:
www.nicholsinlay.com
I emailed him, and sent along the drawing I had of JJ, and explained what I wanted done.
He wrote back, and asked what type of Guitar it was going on, which Model and Color - and then suggested different wood types that would look good with that headstock wood. We discussed adding in the "JJ" as I had not been successful adding it myself, I lacked the right font. But he added it in, and it was Perfect!
He discussed which type of inlay to use for what (Abalone, Mother of Pearl, etc) for which parts, and then emailed me a sample of what it would look like finished, and gave me a quote.
He is extremely nice to work with, very knowledgeable, and I thought his price was very reasonable! I got the TRC of my Dreams, and when I get to have my Custom Patch Job done at the Factory, he will be making me one for that guitar too!
He has TONS of pictures, styles, types (people, animals, logos, etc) to look at on his web site, and I found things I liked from several different ones, and put together what I wanted. There is not one thing I would change from what he did, it was even better in person than his pictures (I always love when that happens!)
He also does wood tuner knobs, so if you are looking for those, he has them too!
Thanks again for sharing my excitement with me!!

Perfect Cliff!!! You know your Birds!!! Do you have a Tiel???
I do have a Cockatoo also, but JJ was my little Buddy!
Because this guitar did not originally have a TRC, Bill used an ahesive on the back that you peel and stick on, so no holes to drill!!! He said to put it where you want it, because it would be very hard to get it off again later, or to change to a different guitar. |

LMAO!!!!!!!!!! That is GREAT!!!!!!!
I had a Severe Macaw that loved the ex, but hated women, I called her "Bitchy-Bird", can't say I miss her.
But I had JJ for 17 years, and I still miss him so much. People keep bringing me critters, and I can't say no. They do keep me busy and poor, but I love them all. Nice to meet a fellow Tiel Person!! They are my Favorites!
Did you have your Blue Front all those years? |

It really does!!! It is like a Tattoo, it makes it individually *yours*!
I was thinking that Ovation could offer a personalization on the guitars that they are gearing towards the younger folks, with a Special Order decal to add to the face. Young people will put out $300+ for a tattoo, and how cool would it be to have your tattoo on your guitar too? Just a thought!
I'll bet your Daughter still loves having her signature on her guitar, VERY Cool Flysig!! |

Location: Sunshine State, Australia | We don't see cockatiels in the wild as they're not from here, but we see thousands of Rainbow Lorikeets every day. If you go to the Noosa River at sunset, you have to speak quite loudly to be heard over the tens of thousands of Rainbow Lorikeets sqwarking above. We also regularly see 3 different species of Black Cockatoo, Kookaburras, Sulphur Crested Cockatoos, Corellas, Galahs, Rosellas and the occasional King Parrot. Although they're not birds, our other regular visitors include Easter Grey Kangaroos, Goannas, Carpet Pythons, (who take an uncomfortable interest in our birds)Green Tree Frogs, Bearded Dragons and, rarely, echidnas Beal is staying in accommodation only about a mile from my house, but I'm yet to hear from him this week, so it will be interesting to hear about his wildlife encounters

I have never seen a Lorikeet in person, they are so colorful!!! So many pretty colored birds down there!!!
DetlefMichel!! That TRC is STUNNING!!! And so it the Logo!!
This is fun! seeing what other people get for personalization for their guitars!
I was thinking about an Eagle TRC for my Flag CL, but that guitar is already so blinged out, it might just make it gaudy, and I don't want that.
OMA, THANK YOU for putting up the picture!! |

Ha! A mutt `tiel.
Actually, your JJ and Muzza's tiel are the products of too much cross-breeding to produce lutinos, etc.
Here's a pic of our birds.
Pepper after a shower. (Silver Whiteface - mine)Pete. (mutt - SWMBO's)
These are their given names. Most of the time I call them Screechy and Squawky.

You have Tiels too!!!
I Love the white faces, I have had several, they seemed to be prone to heart problems due to the inbreeding. I think the mutation is more stable now. Humans playing God....
I love the Pearl pieds, and Pieds! I do have 2 Normals, one is 30 years old, and the other is an Older Gentleman too. The feed store always calls me when someone drops off an older Tiel when their human has passed away, so I have several geriatrics here too!
I made the mistake of teaching my 2 new young boys how to purr like a cat, now I hear cats in my house all the time! It is cute when they are up on your shoulder, next to your ear and purr though!!!
Thanks So Much guys for sharing your Birds! I know that it is a Guitar forum, but I like getting to know you all better, and Bird People are a Special Kind of Crazy!

You need to put the whole bird in a camp oven with 3 rocks similar in size to the carcass. Put in enough water to cover everything by an inch and bring it up to boiling. It's important to keep the water topped up as you cook it, and after 3 days you tip out th water, throw out the carcass and eat the rocks. |

I also used to tell her that she would fit in the Microwave if I cut her tail off! (Please know that I would NEVER do that!!! She just really tried my patience, and it did shut her up for a bit!)

When Pepper was a young chick, he was a pied, which is what attracted me to him. Here's what he looked like when I first got him. Then he went through his first molt and ended up being a silver white face. Oh, well. The other bird is Koko. Unfortunately, she was an egg-laying machine and became egg-bound and died. Super sweet bird. 30 years?! Ugh. I thought a 20-year life span was going to be a long time. After our birds die, I'm going to be pet-free for a long, long time. They're nice birds, but I can't handle them going off like fire alarms whenever they see a butterfly fluttering by the window. Like you, I made the mistake of teaching Pepper lots of different things to whistle, including 'Shave and a Haircut --Twp bits', 'Jingle Bells' and 'Eine Kleine Nacktmusic'. If you want to see the videos and more pics, visit the bird page I set up for them. (See: Birds)

Thank You Guys!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dan, you Love your birds like I do! Reading your blog on the Birds sounded just like me and my Babies, and the same experiences, and discoveries I am still making!!! I had a WF Pearl Pied that looked so much like your Pepper before his molt, only she was the regular grey instead of that stunning Silver! Her name was Wind Dancer, and she like your girl, Koko, an egg-laying machine, and I lost her to that too. After losing most of my females that way, I decided to have only boys now. I have one female left, Kacie, but she is unable to lay eggs, so I have high hopes of keeping her with me for many years!
Muzza, I LOVE your Indian Ringnecks!!! I have heard such good things about them. They actually have a few wild flocks in California now from escapees, getting together and making a go of being wild. They are not Native, but they are not hurting anything either, and folks Love them!!! Yours are Gorgeous! Are they good talkers??? Did you ever see any of the YouTube videos of "Marnie"??? HILARIOUS!!!

Location: Frozen Tundra of Minnesota | Mark, I have an Afghan Kuchi (2 of them actually), and Griffen is more wolf than dog, and way too smart and powerful for me.
If I yell at him, he will bristle up and growl and snap, so I was told to calf tip him until he accepted me as Pack Leader. So every morning, when I put my foot on the floor, I would calf tip him, and hold his cheek down, until he relaxed. Did that for 2 weeks. Now I am accepted Leader (for the time being) but he is constantly challenging for that position. I am going back to Shelties after these 2 big ones pass, they drag me all over the place, bite, jerk you all over. I have been around 1400 lb horses all my life, and never been hurt like these 2 dogs do to me.
I figure that I took responsibility for them, and I will give them the best life possible, but I am going to get one that wants to please next time, these 2 just don't give a rodent's rump about pleasing you! Mini Aussies are nice too! A nice older one that likes to sit beside you, and won't kick you off the bed!

I'll bet your Daughter still loves having her signature on her guitar, VERY Cool Flysig!!
Here she is with it when I gave her the guitar. She had no idea she was getting an Adamas nor that it was her "signature" model. It is still her favorite acoustic, though she has a decent collection O guitars and other stringed instruments.

Location: Boise, Idaho | Nancy, our bitch was a Springer that we rescued from the pound, so we didn't know her history. I did some reading about "Springer rage", the term for when a friendly dog turns violent. It happens in Springers enough that they got the name and ours really tried hard to please us, except when she thought she was going to get punished.
My brother did the same "Alpha" training with a Rottweiler that he rescued. It involved a lot of wrestling and shouting, "who's the Alpha Male?" The dog came around to being a great dog, even when they had kids. It did nail the mailman once.
Now I've really got us off topic, from birds to dogs, so our Springer was afraid of my Ovation for years, until I started playing it almost every day and she got used to it.

Haha :D Thanks, Nancy. I always thought that's what the TRCs are actually made for. I will get one done by your guy for my FD-14 sooner or later. I hope he'll ship to Germany.
If he doesn't, have it shipped to me, and I will ship it over to you. I ship horses to Germany all the time. They are SO much faster than the UK for shipping, and the boxes get there safely! |
