Location: Muenster/Germany | I got this guitar some time ago in unbelievable bad shape, with a failed neck-reset, lots of fretwear, dust and dirt, a broken rosette and scratches but - a custom legend 12string 12fret sunburst!!
For the first couple of weeks I was quite desperate and went with the guitar to Ernie Rissmann, the luthier that already built some guitars for me.We decided to try to change the neck into a bolt-on one, which was not so easy as it first seemed to be, but it finally worked out fine.Ernie re-fretted the guitar and made it playable again. The rest was my part. I wanted an acoustic only guitar, so I removed the non-working electronics and built a replacement for the pickup, an exactly matching ebony piece with a brass inlay (but light because of big drilled holes in the material). The cracks are only in the surface, the top wood and the bracing are 100%, just a little polish was enough. The guitar sounds great! I de-tune it 1 step to D and the new bridge construction has of course better tonal qualities then the old one, more contact space to the top and no clearance improves noticeably the physical response .
AND now I have them all, my favourite Ovation guitars, Custom Legend sunburst. The 6 string, the cutaway, the 12string and the 12string 12fret. CUSTOM LEGEND MADNESS: |

Location: Muenster/Germany | The slothead is a 1979´s. It has the same top bracing as the Pacemaker, but due to the wood quality (I guess) the guitar sounds completely different, like a Pacemaker with a "loudness" function. Much louder than the 14-fret, but this one seems to be easier to play...
Ernie and I worked for nearly one year on the 1658, one hour here, one hour there, and now this is going to be one of my favourite Ovations, despite of the cosmetic blemishes. I also have plenty of them.
But if you have to change strings on a 12string slothead you think different about it..I had Glen Campbells and Pacemakers before and I simply hate it.But the looks...
I find the different sunburst colors remarkable. The cutaway and the 12string look like Stratocasters, the slothead like an old 335 and the 1619 has a wonderful 3-D gold-brown-burst, not easy to reproduce on a photo.
And.. OMA, I don´t want to make anyone jealous. I always share the pleasure of all the people who show their treasures here, and that´s all I had in mind. |

Location: Frozen Tundra of Minnesota | I only have a couple of Bursts, but you really can see the difference in color and gradients from one guitar to the next! All of yours fade in beautifully in towards the center! I like that!! And the different colors in the base are different from one to another. And all of them are Gorgeous!! . You have impeccable taste!! |

Location: undisclosed | A nice matched set.Well done! I look for natural finishes for the same reason as I keep my eyes open for guitars to revive. I've limited myself to a 6, 12 and nylon so now have to close the barn door. If you want a non intrusive pickup that sounds good without a preamp I recommend the K&K system I posted about for my 1115. My Pacemaker is loud, cleaning excess epoxy off the bracing helped. |

Location: Yokohama, Japan | WOW! What a beautiful collection of burst Os! Rarely see these 12 fret Custom Legends anymore, but in a 12-string? That is amazing! Thanks for sharing DetlefMichel! I seem to have that same "jealousy in a good way" thing going over here too! Congratulations!
