I have searched the BFLG for "LX Neck" and have found nothing. So I am wondering anyone has attempted a neck reset on a LX guitar or at least explored or documented how the LX neck is attached to the body?

If you don't see any bolt heads on the inside of the bowl at the neck heel area, then the neck is glued on.

If the neck is bolted on, then you'll need to free the fretboard extension from the top, then unbolt the neck to do a conventional reset.

If glued on, the only way to do a neck reset is to remove the neck from the body. To do this, you'll need heat up the epoxy to soften it so the neck can be freed from the body.

Ken (arumako) came up with a really slick way to soften the epoxy so he was able to remove the neck on his Celebrity. (See: Celebrity Deluxe CC247 Neck Reset)

Also... If you have an Elite-style, check to see if the fingerboard extension is bolted down.

There will be a bolt head up under the fingerboard extension when you feel from the inside.

Thanks, I think your examples apply to necks with K-bar. I thought the LX models had a different approach with a separate block under the neck, and the fretboard is "floating"?

Okay... My photo is of a 1778T Elite T with a Truss Rod Cover.
It is not a Kaman Bar.

But here is a photo of the innards of a 6778LX...

Two bolts into the Heel Block. One bolt into the "tongue" of the fingerboard extension.
So, if you have an Elite... That is how it attaches.

Thanks Oma. It's a Legend but should be similar too I guess.

It depends on how the fingerboard is attached.
I have only taken-apart an Elite.
So a Legend still might have the fingerboard glued to the top.
I have read about people peeling the fingerboard loose with a spatula...
You should talk to DanSavage before doing that.

You might be able to do a half-assed reset by just Loosening and re-Tightening the two main bolts.
But discuss this with smarter people first.

Digging up this old thread as my new-to-me 2079LX has no shims and kind of high action. Has anyone done this to an LX?

Sorry, no. Best of luck and consult with the guys at Ren-Ovation. They might have some insights.

As the late, great OMA once said.. "You might be able to do a half-assed reset by just Loosening and re-Tightening the two main bolts."
I have one LX I plan on.. maybe.. doing that with during the next re-string just to see how much, or how little, give and lash I may find in there. Meantime, please let us know of anything you may attempt (and/or succeed/fail with) if you decide on anything short of a full removal.
