| Hi, new to the forum. I used to play quite a lot back in the 80's, and unfortunately pretty much quit after college. Ran into the guy I used to play in bars with and we decided to start back playing. I have a 6 and a 12 ovation. Haven't seen the 12 string in about 10 years, let a friend borrow it, and he lives about 500 miles away and he uses it frequently playing in bars on the beach. I pulled my 6 string out after years in storage, the neck is so screwed up the local guitar doc says it would cost more than it's worth to repair. So now I need a 6 and a 12. I found a Ovation Celebrity CSE225-8TY for sale about 100 miles south of me on the web. I looks to be modiifed, has a pickup added to the bottom and extra switches as well. I'm not sure if I can post a pic yet since I'm a newbie on the forum, I will try. How are these doubles? I'm wondering if it's worth a 3 hour round trip to go see it. |

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | I have never played, or even held, a double neck. It is a specialized tool.
How many songs do you play where you switch from a 6 string to a 12 string during the song?
If you really want a double neck, it is nice to be able to play that one first to find-out if you Like the modifications... and to see if it plays well.
You may just want to get one of each...

Location: Sydney, Australia | I played with one in a store once. It was heavy and awkward. You'd be much better off with a separate 6 and 12. As the Old Man says, how often do you need to switch from one to the other in the same song. |

| Thanks for the input!
Guess I'll just need to ride down and play it and see what I think.....was thinking about tackling the neck on the 6, I'm a decent woodworker, but it's an Ultra, so it's all glue, no bolts, so I don't think I'm skilled enough. |

| Thanks!
Just found out that the owner of the shop where the double is located is a friend of mine that lives in my town. He is going to bring it to me to try out for a few days....even if I don't like it I won't be out anything. |
