Location: Scotland | I need a name for my new project. We have a bunch of gigs coming up and just can not come up with a decent name.
It's an acoustic trio, mostly original material. Guitars, lap steel, mandolin, weissenborn, cajon, vocal harmonies. Think Crowded House meets Jackson Browne. Name needs to be preferably one word, and nothing starting with "The"
Any sensible suggestions gratefully accepted. Witko therefore needn't bother. |

- Frankie Fillet and the Catch of the Day
- One Night Only
- Reverend Rocket and the Backsliders
- The Blow Chunks
- No Cover
- Big Jimmy and the Twins
- Stiff Upper Lip
- Pastor Disaster and the Converted Choir
- Big Pussy And The Love Torpedoes
- Terminally Bewildered
- Screamin' Gumbo
- Daddy's Shame
- The Hornet Daddies
- Full Reverse
On my current project, if we are playing a "respectable" venue (and believe me, we are very generous in that determination) we go out as "The Heatseekers". If we are playing at a place we don't want to be associated with, we go out as "Big Luscious and the Downward Spiral". |

PS: I missed it ... if they are called the aristocrats, why give the audience condoms, feces, urine etc? Is that because of the name or what? Frankly, I like the idea of giving each audience member its own bag of feces, as a take home gift at the end of the concert, but the connection went over my head. |

TBA
Most will think it's "To Be Announced" and you'll get TONS of free press. Every club will have your name TBA if you play or not.
Only the insiders will know...
TBA = (T)empleman (B)eer (A)ssociation
.... or something more clever I hope. |

About 15 years ago I spent about 4 months woodshedding with 2 other guys to work up a solid catalog of covers and originals. Right about the time we lined up some work, the talented but squirrely singer inherited 30k and immediately moved to Austin to snort it. We were calling ourselves Spare Change, until the guy got some and took off. Take it if you want it.
For years I've thought if I ever pulled a band together I would call it Bad Penny, the no-good person that can be counted on to come back again and again. Maybe Bad Shilling would be more appropriate. Doesn't look like being in a band is in my future so you can have it if you want it - but only because, when I posted something about 4 years ago about a possible vacation in the UK you emailed me and invited us to visit and stay under your roof for a night. Sight unseen, and despite my many contagious conditions and occasional bad smell. I nearly became your Bad Shilling. |

Thanks Phil, beers are on me next time. Very cool!! I hope everything works out on the legal name part. Paul you actually have to tnank Mr. Wabbit also. Part of the name was his idea and I just started thinking of variations (honorable mention in your CD's liner notes would do it for me). So as far as the beer goes you can give Wabbit the beer. I always wanted to see what a drunk Wabbit looked like anyway :D . The only image that comes to mind with drunk animals was during a lab experiment . We had to overdose a lab RAT with Phenobarbital. After the injection the rat stumbled off the table and fell on the floor. He was about 17 inches from head to tail. The we had to give him Narcan (Naloxone) a narcotic antangonist that reversed the effects of the Phenobarbital. Within 8 seconds of the Narcan the ran was back to normal.
So Acoustic Rat may be an option. |

2)Phil, do you have any pictures of the rat escapade?
3)As for the name, there is nothing new under the sun, so if the band likes it just use it. And if your worried about a domain name, then use something like acoustiratmen.com or something. I doubt there will be any confusion. |

Sorry no pictures available of the rat. I was in my fourth year at St. John's Univ. It was just one of many labs that I had to attend. One thing that was interesting is that the experiment was done in groups of four. The rat's head and forearms had to held down with the head between the middle and ring finger. The fingers were closed to hold down the forearms. The only one who had hands/nerve to hold down the rat was Artie. He only had one arm. I think he lost his other arm in a farming accident. |

Thats the closest I have come to getting a beer in me. Once when I was young my mother was experimenting and put a cap full of Johnny Walker in beef and broccoli. She didn't tell anyone. I can still see the mess I made when I spit it out. |

I know the "contest" is basically over but I thought Paul might have some use for this one. Either a band name, opening act, song title etc. |
