.. and Bill Xavier too    I was so excited to see this.   Rudy plays or has played in just about every one of my favorite bands.  I met him a couple of years ago and you cannot find a nicer person so passionate and giving of his knowledge and talent.  He does not strike me as someone that would lend his name to just any product and I'm betting he played that guitar and liked it before that photo was taken.

From Facebook...

"I'm really loving my new Ovation Acoustic bass!!! It sounds and plays like a dream!!! Pictured with my old friend Bill Xavier. We'll have exciting news real soon!!!  Posted by Rudy Sarzo"

He's looking pretty good for a pensioner. Great to have him as an artist, but I sure hope they find some artists who have been relevant during this century.

It's news to me that we have artists that have been relevant in this century (and not in the previous one) .... what are some examples?

Yeah... But everybody that I listen to is quite old.

Yeah, there's not a lot, but there are some. Sarzo's played with so many, he's kinda timeless. I can't think of too many bass players that would make much of an impact anyway, but he's as good as any.

Here are a few more recent bass players I think would be good:

Les Claypool

Flea

John Myung

Michael League

Steffan Lessard

Tom Blankenship

Tim Commerford

John Paul Jones... Yeah, we all know the old stuff, but did you hear him with Them Crooked Vultures? The guy is rediculously talented

My 2 cents: Rudy Sarzo is cool. They great days of Ozzy with the great, humble and sorely missed (not enough words of praise) Randy Rhodes (one more - RIP). Now for the question (and maybe some disagreements -- ducks) - he has to admit Zach Wylde is a complete poseur! Have you ever heard play acoustic? My G-D! He's no better than me!
So Bill X. - next time you talk to Rudy have him come clean about ZW being a poseur!

This is what great artist relations are all about. Sarzo is among the elite in any age bracket, a monster player to spread the word and represent quality instruments. He's universally respected. I'll take him on my team anytime.

I have to admit that I don't have much awareness of the metal scene and had to google him. It would be nice to see Ovation in the hands of a new generation of folk/blues/country artists, whoever they may be ...

Gotcha - I listened to Voodoo Chile from that set. No I don't play anything like that. I just hate the guy's whole set-up. To me his whole thing is some kind pf gimmick. What's the point of the acoustic guitar in that set? It sounds an electric. What does he have 9's or 10' on that guitar? And how low can the action be? And the guy seems so damn depressed when he plays. There's some video of BLS where he sucks it up. Nothing personal to BLS or ZW fans, I just can't stand the guy!

Seems extremely personal to me.

I don't know Zakk, but everyone I know that's ever met him has said he's a VERY nice guy, and has been most his life. Maybe you don't like his playing? Everyone has their own tastes, but he's not someone I would consider a poseur BY ANY means. He's pretty much been his own guy and done his own thing since day one. I've been watching him since he was a kid.

For all of you that don't know who Zakk Wylde is, here's a clip of the accused 'poseur' from almost 25 years ago.
