My "new" 1992 L717 arrived yesterday, and I'm wondering about the odd strap buttons. Not buttons at all, but some kind of washers screwed into the body.
I took the washer off and used the screws to attach a couple standard strap buttons. But what's up?

My guess is that the previous owner was home-player that always played seated. He didn't need the strap buttons. He just used the screws and decorative recessed washers to do a neat job concealing the holes.
I saw your other post..... beautiful guitar. Natural tops are my favorite, especially when they have some age to them. Congrats.

It's also possible that the previous owner elected to semi-permanently attach the strap to the guitar. Some folks do that for gigging guitars or if they just plain never play the guitar without a strap.

Like MWoody, I think we have a winner here; this makes the most sense to me as well. I'm assuming when the guitar got traded in the original strap buttons were long gone.
I just happened to have a set of gold strap locks like I see on most Ovations in my parts bin (can't remember the brand?), so on they went - looks perfect (although I don't know if they used these particular strap buttons in '92; my '03/'04 Legend had these on it...).
