Location: Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire | Just finished assembling this amp. It was salvaged from a barn where rodents turned the speaker cabinet into a condo but its been a work in progress. Found some hard to find speakers, power amp, missing horn driver etc. Installed new grille cloth, new crossover caps, cleaned up oxidized connections, cleaner lube on all controls and it works pretty well except for the "G" tuner and a slight hum on channel 1, but thats a work in progress. The speakers apparently were a high end option (from the literature I've read) and although I could only speculate that they were made my University/Altec, from the searching I've done, it seems the only explaination. Fire it up last night and it sounded awesome!

Location: Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire | yes, I stalled for a few weeks with other outside chores needing attention. With a couple of rainy days, I managed to dive back into it and finish up the cabinet. The head still has a slight hum on channel 1 but at least it works. Using the dedicated Channel 2 output it works fine, no hum. So I narrowed it down to one side. The powered speaker cabinet works perfectly. I used a different preamp to test it out and it sounded clear and punchy. Good luck with yours. |
