The Patriot that I had bought back in Dec/Jan on eBay from Boston arrived, and I am just thrilled!!!! This one is a Beauty, Mint, and Fresh smelling even!!!! No mold, no cracks, and even came in a box!!!!
It was Perfectly packed, and had the Humidipaks in it that I had sent to him to humidify while waiting to send.
I *just* opened her, so tomorrow, she will get a polish, and play. She has brand new strings on her (how nice is that!) and after I polish her and the case up, all set to go!!!
Thank you all for your help in getting her here safely, and putting up with my excitement!!! She is SO worth the wait! You were all correct, and I want to Thank You for sharing your expertise with me!!!! YES!!!!!!

The Legend Ltd, the original "John Lennon" model, is the same guitar as the Patriot sans the decal. Seems the factory had a few more guitars than decals back in the late 70's. Still have it and love it. |

I have owned a 1619 and a 30th Anniversary CS and the 1651 held its own against both of those...but all of them being A braced, deep bowl, premium topped bodies, maybe that is to be expected. |

#1299. . Tony noticed that the decal is flawed, there is no gold accenting, so the dates, drum, flagpole, and wheat is so faint that you can barely be seen. The red and blue are faint too, but I am still just thrilled!!!

Location: SoCal | Beal, your post back in 2/15/2005: "Yes #1 and 76 are at my good friend's place in Ft Lauderdale on consignment. They are both acoustic and both in A+ condition." Which one did you keep?
I was really tempted to call Timm back then after #1 but had #320 (an a/e) at the factory getting a lot of work done on it (good disclosure by the seller, had him send it directly to Kim), as well as an acoustic #880.
Sold #880 later but #320 stays...a wonderful story, as many of us have stories how the crew at the factory made the incredible happen. When Kim got the guitar, he didn't even ask-just threw out the case. |

I've also kept an eye out for #1776, but have never found a clue about it. I would love to get that one. There's always hope though eh? |

Location: 6 String Ranch | Tony, you remember back to 05? Pretty good. I got 76 in a trade from Craig Brodie (guitar broker, Fla) and he got it from Al Lazzari who used to be the production supervisor of the factory. He moved to fla when he retired and his family sold the instruments when he past. I had it and moved it to Patch. I don't recall if the 1776 was ever made. There were only going to be that many but I seem to recall that orders fell a little short. Doesn't mean that they wouldn't skip ahead and make the last one, I just don't recall, it was 39 years ago after all. |

Here's how she looks today. She is serving her tour of duty as one of my office guitars. (I rotate them through every so often.) The stencil looks just as good now as it did in the 2009 OFC Calendar. My wife loves this guitar. it has a cool history, unique aesthetics, and just in case no one has mentioned it before, fantastic tone!

Tony, does it look like the gold on the decal is very faint on this one too???
Patch! HOLY BUCKETS that is GORGEOUS!!!! And throws my theory of the gold on the decal deteriorating over time, right out the window!!! WOW!!!!

Location: New Hartford CT | Nancy, don't feel bad about paying a grand. I bet the one listed on ebay will be in that ballpark when the sale is complete. They are worth it. Mine is acoustic only...an A/E would be nice. I rec'v mine 3 years ago.
The gold hasn't faded too much but the prior owner never played it. Sat in its case for 36 years untouched.

I don't know why either unless it is the absorption of the finish to the decal OR slight dulling of the catalyzed polyester. However, I have had or seen several Patriots and the decal was always defined.
I believe the clear catalyzed polyester, as in other finishes, does have a very minor clouding after many years...I had a 1168 Custom Legend 12-string (1980 NAMM guitar)...the abalone inlaids were so bright against a dark sunburst top that I was shocked...yet wonderful.
My 1658 Custom Legend (1980) that I got in December 2003 suffered UPS damage and was sent to the factory where they took the top down to bare wood. When I got it back, very bright abalone compared with several other 1979-1985 1658's and a 1659. The 6759 Custom Legend (yr 2000, used on Elton John tour) had far brighter abalone than the early 1979-1985 CL's.

As to what happened to the Gold?...
A coupla years ago, gold was worth $1800/oz.
Some dummy might have removed it hoping to get a coupla hundred bucks.
Or, some dummy might have thought it was a good idea to aggressively polish the guitar.
Either way... some dummy did it.

Hey Beal, is this the same type stenciling that was used on the original O heads for the logo and model name? I have noticed that the model and O logo on my well used 67 is barely visable, where on another, that has resided in its case most of its life, is very clearly seen. |

I am following this one and may put in a bid if it stays within affordable range. But I would like to ask the seller a few questions and when I try I get this: "We're sorry we couldn't find an answer for you. Unfortunately, this seller is not able to respond to your question. We suggest reviewing the item again to see if your answer is in the seller's listing." That's a bit odd for sure. So Lonnie, if you have a chance to check it out please let us know. |

The Ebay page is letting me ask a question... did you go all the way down to the bottom of the page, and hit
"Questions and answers about this item" return,
"Ask a Question", return,
"Other" (all the other ones are worthless) return,
"Continue" return,
page to type a Topic and area to ask Seller your Questions. |
