I hope you all don't mind my asking your opinion, but after naellis58 posted the "If you could design your Perfect Ovation?" thread, I've been thinking about how I would ask the folks at NH to build an Ovation. Then I just read OMA's "So there's a rumor..." thread and... well realistically, having a custom O build is just out of the question for me, but I thought it'd be neat to read what you all might think.

The iDea guitar is not everybody's cup of tea, but I like the design, and made a Photoshop template that enables me to dump any jpeg on to the soundboard of the iDea guitar. Made a slide show in Photobucket, and thought I'd ask your opinion...

Of course, the point is kinda mute because the pictures just feature nice pieces of wood without any reference to resonance, so I'm sorry if this seems like an exercise in futility; still your opinion would mean a lot so thanks in advance!

Oh My!!!! I like them all!

But my Favorites in order are:

Sakura #2 (I love grained patterns of wood, the more unique the better!)
Koa - I love the Koa wood, it is warm, and beautifully grained
Redwood - same reason as above,
Sakura #1 with Coffee Sunburst

If I were to create one from the ones offered, I would go with:
Sakura #2 wood, with the Coffee Sunburst

Very Fun! Thank You Arumako!

I'd go with Sakura #2. I don't know the wood, but I have some practical thoughts on Koa and Redwood. Koa is a dense wood, so it sounds like a hard wood. There are several Koa Ovations already. Redwood is the opposite. Soft and warm, but may cause some issues because of the softness of the wood, like with bracing and the stability of the bridge.

Nice exercise. Do not know how sakura wood sounds like. Visually my vote goes to Koa top.
Thanks for sharing.

That Koa is a nice piece of wood and looks great in that configuration.

Among those I like the white best and the burst least.

Thanks for the comments everybody! I was pretty set on Sakura1 myself (w/o coffee burst), and I even have the wood. I was planning a summer project after I finish my 1868 Elite rebuild; however, I am very much leaning toward the Koa now (wood in route)...and after working on these mock ups, I really have a much deeper appreciation for Charlie Kaman's innovative designs. The beauty of the original Adamas epaulets and bracing patterns are just astounding! Unfortunately, the iDea braces were not designed for resonance. They were designed for durability; and so, if i want this to guitar to 'sound' good as well as look good, I'm going to have to put some serious thought into a redesigned bracing pattern. Fun, fun, fun...just hope I don't hack away the beautiful soundboard blanks!
