I believe this is a 1983. It is a deep bowl cutaway with the cutaway pieced in instead of molded in. It has electronics. It does not have a mark on it. Seriously. It is in MINT condition.

This guitar was hanging in my shop on consignment a few years ago. I wanted to buy it for myself but couldn't afford it at the time so I put it up for sale here and then before I could sell it the guy changed his mind and took it back. Eventually he decided to sell it again and sold it to a lady I know. She just traded it in at another music store here in the Hills for - get this- a crappy Taylor.

I just bought it from that music store for $750!!! With the original brown case. Even the case is in great condition.

You talk about tone. Holy cow, this thing rings like a bell. Loud, bassy, balanced, and low low action.

Yeah I know, I need pictures but the guitar isn't even here yet. I couldn't leave the shop for the two or more hours it would take to make the round trip so a friend offered to go up for me. He just called and told me how much to deduct from my checkbook. He won't be back for a few hours yet 'cause he has some more errands to run.

I am SO happy right now!!!

I used to think that a Custom Legend was just a gussied up A braced Legend. Then I got a 30th CL. How Crap! How could there be that much more sound in what is essentially the same guitar? Great get Alison......

Thanks you two.

And Nancy, I have several Adamas' and although they may be just a little louder than the CL, the CL has that "wood ring" that the Adamas doesn't have. I absolutely love this guitar. As soon as he brings it I am taking it home. I keep a lot of my guitars here at the shop but I won't risk anyone grabbing this one and putting a scratch on it.

Congrats Alison.

Is it a cutaway 1669? If so, that puts it right at the same time as that old black Legend you got from me way back.

That one was special sounding and playing too... I had that action set up super low... no buzz

Yep Damon, that's what it is. It was a very good year for Ovations! And my friend just called and should be here with it in a few minutes.

It really was a good year... That's when I bought my UKII too

Now that I know it's a 1669, I'm doubly excited for you! Enjoy!

Uh-oh. I was just restringing it and cleaning it up and I found a flaw. This has the stacked knobs and both the volume and tone are cracked. Anybody got some spare ones?

1983 was a good year. Our first daughter, 1537s and the intro of the supershallow bowl. The stacked knobs must have been a problem. The 83 Collector I got our daughter had at least one cracked one. JB sent me some new ones. Better get in touch before the supply runs out, if it hasn't already.

Yeah, what Damon said!!!!

I just got a 1651 that has broken stacked knobs too... I only play accoustic, but I would like to replace these just because the Guitar is in such great shape!

FWIW Alison, this guitar is a prime candidate for a preamp upgrade with the placement of the knobs. That's why I put the OP50 in that Legend I sent your way.

It would make an already awesome guitar more awesomer

I've got to get someone with a camera in here to take pictures for me. Sorry.

I'll have to try JB tomorrow. I know an upgrade would be nice but I hardly ever play plugged in anyway. If I do have to plug in I'll take an Adamas with the OP24. That's my favorite electronics and besides, I don't want this CL to get bumped or scratched so it's staying at my house.

I AM playing out on Easter Sunday come to think of it but I'll be playing banjo at that one. (They need to level the stage.)
