just picked this beauty up yesterday! she looks like a closet queen, pretty much mint!
although when i looked up info on how many were made....any info i find suggests 1177 were made.
but when i looked at the label on this one, you can see it,s cleanly hand numbered in ink 1613 ???. is there an answer out there that i,m missing??? how could this happen?

Wow! Nice guitar. Interesting problem.
If I had to decide if the sticker is wrong...
Or that the Ovation web page is wrong...
I would think that the web page is wrong.

hi Arthur, at first....i did think that the web page was wrong. but i did a little more research, and my 30th ann 96 came with the c.o.a. small catalog. in it , it lists the c/s up to 1996. and in there it lists the 88-P with the exact # as the web 1177 ? the label does not look to be tampered whatsoever, i mean this guitar looks like the day it was built. also there is no paper work, so i will never know what the c.o.a. had for a number???

So the catalog states "in all 1177 were built." Your's is numbered 1613.. May I offer that it is possible that at least 1613 were made. Maybe the intent was 1177, or when that page you posted reflected 1177, but who knows what happened further on (unless someone remembers specifically). I seem to recall that there was a magic number of "Collectors Series" guitars made each year... and it was around 1600+ I don't remember the exact number, maybe someone else does. I think the catalog was correct (as of the printing)...

1177......

11 + 77  =    88

maybe that was an early target?!
