Looks like I'm the latest new guy here, wanted to say "hi".

My wife just found a 1974 1121-4 model, and told me it's a belated birthday gift. It's on layaway, and should be here for Xmas. There doesn't seem to be much information out there about this model, even calling Ovation didn't have much info about it.

It is a natural color, with 5-piece V neck (my favorite profile shape), and it does come with the original hard shell case. Looking forward to bringing it home.

Anyone else have one of these? What do you think of it?

Thanks,

Joe

Is this place dead? 66 reads but no replies? I learned this one is 1974 model, acoustic only. It's like pulling teeth to get any info.

Joe, patience is a virtue. There are only a few people that can respond to new members in this section, though anyone can read it, and yes, the forum does die a little bit on the weekends, especially holiday weekends.

I personally have never had one, but can tell you there were 2 'artist bowl' models available both acoustic and A/E. Yours is the standard one, then there was one with a touch more 'bling' that was the Glen Campbell model. The artist bowl was designed partly if not fully due to the fact that glen wanted a narrower bowl that was more comfortable to play on stage.

Is there anything specifically you want to know about it? Maybe try another post in the main general section. You're now able to do so.

There used to be a lot of info on the Ovation website. But those days are gone.
I have owned 3 of them. I currently own one.

I got it cheap because of a repaired broken headstock.
But it sounds really nice.

That says deep bowl, maybe I was incorrect.

Damon, more likely the site was incorrect.
All mine had "Artist Depth" bowls....
Kinda like a Mid-Depth without the cutaway.
But still shallower than a Deep Bowl.

Thanks Damon 67, I appreciate all the info. Sorry, didn't mean to appear rude, just anxious about the new guitar, and finally getting a proper vintage Ovation.

Also thanks for placing me in the regular members section. I just won an auction for an 1982 1655, and it looks like it's been tweaked into a stereo model. Finally a proper Ovation 12 string!
