| Greetings . I bought an Ovation yesterday and am curious as to the Model number , and what the finish is called . I have always wanted an Ovation and found one in a shop that trades guitars etc . This one sounds and plays beautifully , and no cracks in the finish .
There isn't a tag in the bowl , but the serial number (242681) indicates a 1981 vintage . Is this a legend ? Perhaps an Ultra ? I'm lost .

Any info would be greatly appreciated . |

Location: Tennessee | Probably a Korean 1528 Ultra Deluxe. They made a pretty good run of those snakeskin finishes back in the 90's, maybe a bit earlier. A sheep in wolf's clothing. |

I'm more confused as to what this Model is than ever . The serial says it was made in 1981 according to the two places that list them .
If I need to take more detailed pictures , I'll do so if it helps .
The finish doesn't look anything like the two snakeskin finishes I've found . Someone said "birdseye maple" . |

| Ok , just got a response from Jerome @ Ovationtribute.com , and Bobbo is correct . It is a 1528D-5M , probably Early 90's vintage . The 5M indicates a Sitka Spruce top called Birdseye Maple . The serial number doesn't correlate with U.S. built guitars , hence my confusion .

Thanks for the right call Bobbo , and much appreciation to all for helping me .
Merry Christmas . |

"According the pictures you sent me, your guitar is an Ovation Ultra Deluxe 1528D-5M from the early 90's (probably 1990 or 1991).
If I'm right, this guitar was built in Asia (probably in Korea) that's why the serial don't match with US serials.
This one has a laminated sitka spruce top and the finish (5M) is for "Maple Birdseyes"."
This is what I've been told by someone on another Ovation site .
I don't know what is true due to the conflicting answers (except for StoneBobbo) , but it looks pretty close to what I have . I will continue to research it . |
