Location: enid, ok | One of THE pioneers of rock and roll, without doubt. As far as the negative stereotypes, I really can't say. I wasn't there. I do know an obscene amount of drugs were involved, and I'm sure everyone was on them. Not to mention the abuse of booze and whatever else was going on. I also know the liberties hollywood takes with these types of movies. Tina Turner is an absolute icon, a diva of divas, but she'd be nothing without Ike. I'm not condoning his behavior, just questioning the accuracy of the public's perception. I'm sure she's no angelic icon by any stretch, and she never wrote anything of note. Ike's bed's been made, deserved or not. But he never got even close to his due for his musical contributions, and that's a shame. We honor James Brown, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, Hooker, the various Kings, Howlin' Wolf, etc., and we step right over this guy. I don't get it. RIP Ike, and thanks. You were truly a Motherf*%#er! |

Location: Texas | The stories were true concerning his abuse of Tina. As good as she was/is, no one knows if she would have made it big or not if Ike wasn't there. After she left him - she gave up everything except the last name. She was a much bigger star after she got away from him.
Awwww - just to mention one song I remember that she wrote - Nutbush City limits - but that was a pretty crappy song, huh?
RIP IKE? - how about Rot in Peace - pardon me Lord. |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | I just finished watching that movie about her life "What's Love Gotta' Do with It", and I don't care what kind of musician he was, his abusive actions overshadow any of his accomplishments in my mind. It's a shame when anyone's life turns out like that. No one should ever treat another human being like he treated his wife. |

In fact, as I recall, at one of these hall of fame induction ceremonies, some emminence like Keith Richards told him to play it otherwise people will think Tina Turner wrote it. So there you go. |

I live in Dallas and I was here when she made her escape from that pitiful excuse of a man. Anyone that doesn't believe that he wasn't worthless - doesn't know what they are talking about. Abuser, herion and crack user - wothless!!!! And he was nothing without Tina. |

Sooo, believe Tina, who had witnesses to the insanity or a heroin user. That is not a hard descision for me. |

One man I dated in college hit me - he was 6'3" and I was 5'6". He didn't like what I said to him - next thing I knew, he landed a right fist to my eye. With my father's words ringing in my ears, as Mr. Wonderful walked away with a satisfied look on his face, I picked up a lamp and let's just say - twenty stitches later to the back of his head - he never bothered me again.
So pardon me if men abusing women pisses me off  And that goes for women abusing men also. |

| His private problems may have made him a despicable human being but it makes no difference to his music or his achievements and his legacy.
Nobody ever wrote many kind words about Beethoven, Vivaldi got into some questionable situations when he was Music Master at a girl's school/institution. How many great artists were mad, gay, murderous, and who knows what else? Whatever Da Vinci or Bach did in their private lives doesn't alter the sheer genius of what they did. Remeber Jerry Lee and his 13/14 year old bride. Remember Chuck Berry and his cameras hidden in the guest bathrooms. The list is endless in every walk of life. Caravaggio was a murderer. |

BTW - my cousin is gay - I would not put him in the category of being mad or murderous. IMHO |

| Nor would I and I realised what I'd listed as I hit the button. Then the phone rang and I couldn't edit in time. I included it in the list as something that some people would find reason enough to dislike a person's work or achievements. Only when I'd written it did I realised how far it was open to misinterpretation.
Whatever prejudices I have in life, gay-bashing isn't one of them. |

| My prejudices are almost endless but they are mostly parochial and would mean little to those of a rebellious colonial persuasion. Just don't get me started on people from Manchester and Liverpool. |

I was basically responding to the person that minimized what Ike did I've got no interest in getting into this discussion, but I will point out that if you think I minimized what Turner did, then you weren't responding to what I said. You were responding to how what I said made you feel. |
