It depends on what you "want" at that particular time . . .
(tho I haven't had it in YEARS) Patsy's in Paterson DOES make a GREAT down&dirty, GinMill "tavern"-style pizza (gotta' have it with anchovies, tho!).
Sun-Ray in Paterson used t'make a really good Sicillian pie.
L'Trattoria in Rhinebeck, NY makes a REALLY good crispy, thin-crust pizza (if yer in the mood for that particular "variety").
Black River Barn in Randolph, NJ makes really good thin-crust, wood-fired, brick-oven pizza.
I particularly like their ArugulaSalad Pizza.
Planet Pizza in Quebec City does some really nice, "nouveau-style" pizzas.
There's a LOT of good places in Manhattan, but the BEST are the ones that still use coal-fired ovens.
About a year or so ago, I had some REALLY good pizza at place called Bohemian Pizza in Litchfield(I believe), CT. They have live music there, as well. REALLY cool place! Run by a bunch of hippies . . . |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Somebody emailed me yesterday asking if I or any of my clients wanted to open a Boston Pizza franchise in Boise. Is it any good? I've never had pizza in any of the 3 choices, but I like Chicago style better than New York style pizza. I can't remember if I've ever even been to New Jersey. I know I tried to go there once, but got stuck in a snow storm and never made it. |

Best pizza?
All the good places around here are gone, taken out by chain pizzerias. Ambrosia in Vancouver, Gandalfs' in Comox, Pizza Island in Campbell River.
Bring back the independants! |

It is the birthplace of pizza as "we" know it!

Actually, I never really thought of this before, and the opportunity has never come up to mention it, but I have probably had and made Pizza in more Pizza places over the years than anyone I know. I've had Pizza in Germany, France, Switzerland, England, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Guam, Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico, Virgin Islands, most of the 50 states, Navy Ships, Cruise Ships, Ferry Boards and probably a few places I hadn't thought of.
My dad made Pizza once a week for most of my life growing up, and taught me how to make Pizza. When I was in the Military and get assigned somewhere on a temporary mission, I would take Vacation there too, where ever it was, I would stay with friends and offer to make Pizza.
Ok.. enough with the resume.
There is a lot of good Pizza out there. Like Cliff says, its a little what you are in the mood for... but.. New Jersey (and some parts of Eastern PA) has probably the best Pizza in the world, no matter what style.
The things that affect the flavor the most are what I call the WAH factor. Water, Altitude and Humidity. There is something about Jersey. The water and humidity are fairly consistent which allows places to "work" a recipe, really dialing it in.
There are pockets of "great Pizza" around the world. Great Pizza joints abound, but there is more good Pizza throughout Jersey, than any place I have ever been to, or could make consistently myself.
The Pizza my dad made in CT, was best in spring as we had well water, which the mineral content went up in the spring.
There are not many things I know about or even have a strong opinion about, but Pizza is one of those few things. |

Location: Utah | The strangest pizza I ever had was in Kathmandu, Nepal. It was more like a piece of Pita bread with cold veges and spices piled on top. No cheese and it wasn't baked. Great view, though. |

Pretty good pizza with plenty of choices but their choice of decor REALLY SUCKS (specially after the recent World Series).
We have a good selection of family owned joints here.

We once stopped for breakfast on the way home from Florida at this little "DownHome" joint in Georgia.
The waitress asked me what kind of toast I wanted, and I said "could you please bring me a Bagel??"

Once bringing it back to CT, and the other time to Maryland. I think I may have filled a bottle at Al's house once and used it for making a Pizza too.
It's not the same. It's the chemical reaction of the Water with the ingredients which is a direct result of Altitude and Humidity.
The worst Pizza I think I have had, is high above Lake Tahoe at a place called the New York Pizza shop or something like that. At 5000+ feet, it just ain't gonna happen. I'm guessing good Pizza in Denver is pretty hard to find too. |

Location: Cherry Hill, NJ | There's a place in the Chambersberg section of Trenton NJ called Delorenzo's. Nothing fancy, just thin crust pizza, tomato pies, and soda. There's always a line. It's worth the trip, but I like thin crust pizza. A year ago I enjoyed a pizza at a place in Siem Reap Cambodia. It was actually quite good. |

Location: Utah | There's a little hole in the wall place in Apalachin, NY called Angelo's Pizza. They make a great white and green pizza. The sauce is garlic instead of tomato based, with brocolli on top. Sounds iffy, but tastes great. Apalachin is upstate west of Binghamton, and is a tiny little one intersection town. |
