Are there any OFC'ers in or near Novi, MI? If there are, could I persuade you to check out the condition of a 1658-4 Custom Legend 12-er at Music Go Round that Pez posted on this other thread ? This would be an ideal companion to the 1619 I just picked up. If anyone's nearby and willing to do this for me I'd be eternally grateful, and you'd have a place to stay in sunny Florida (it's sunny and 72 today) anytime you wanted!

Novi is about about an hour and and a half away.
But IF we go vist the outlaws in Lansing and IF the store is open at the time we drive through, an IF we can leave the house early enough, MAYBE... just MAYBE I can do something.

Brad, just the fact that you'd be willing, circumstance permitting, makes you a prince among men. I certainly wouldn't expect anyone to go that far out of the way. Not knowing Michigan geography, but knowing that there's a bunch of OFC'ers in MI, I just thought I'd throw out the question if anyone was nearby. Thanks in advance for anything you might be able to do.

I've been watching that CL for months, but $649 is too much to pay without trying it out first.

g8r....I looked at this guitar several weeks ago, wasn't interested at that price....if memory serves me right it had one or more serious finish cracks perhaps into the wood....however it did play and sound good...if you are interested and Brad doesn't get a chance to look at it i could take a closer look for you....i'm only 15 minutes from there...jim

Hi G8R - I'm on holiday and you gave me an excuse to tool out there and check it out... I hope you can link to Photo bucket from here - I've not done this before : The instrument has some substantial cracks - cosmetically poor I would say. They told me it had a new Ovation pickup installed and that it was working fine. No case. Price reduced to $487. Neck/action was decent, no neck damage that I could see. Sounded a little muddy - maybe new strings would help.
Regards, Auchen.

Jim - thanks so much for the info. If it does have serious finish cracks then I wouldn't be interested in it, either at that price. Don't go out of your way, but if you happen to be nearby and could stop in and confirm the condition I'd appreciate it. Thanks again.

Auchen - you are the man! Thank you so much for all your efforts. Those cracks are substantial, looks like wood checks and not just finish cracks. This one's definitely a "pass." Still trying to convince SWMBO to let me get either fugot's or Stuart's. Thanks again, I owe you. Brad and Jim, thanks for your generous offers.

Glad I could be of service GR8. And to confirm, yes they were wood cracks.

g8r, I'd deffinitely pass on that one too. One interesting thing I did notice though; the Ovation logo on the head stock is a decal, not pearl inlay. No big deal, just unusual for a Custom Legend.
