I'm an older, total newcomer, to guitars and have been learning/practicing on a Washburn loaned by a friend and a small Martin that is a travel guitar.

My level is currently learning scales and chords so there's a long way to go. Are there any Ovations that have a reputation as being "newbie friendly"?

Any suggestions/advice is much appreciated.

The main friendliness criteria for a learner is a good setup, with a low action. Scales already put you above some people here! This is one area that Ovations tend to be very good at. I would recommend going second hand, USA made. Hunt around eBay or here for a Balladeer, Legend, or Elite that fits your budget.

Thank you, TAFKAR, in reading as much as I can about the Ovation, the guitars you suggested are at the top of my list. Saturday, I was able to play a friend's Ovation which was a nylon stringed classical. I liked how light it was and it seemed easy to play tho the sound was somewhat soft.

Things must be warming up in Sydney, as you head into Spring. I have good friends in Willoughby.

Thank you. I'm off to try an ovation guitar later today.
