Location: Birmingham, Al. | I Have an idea. Probably not a new idea because it seems that everything in the world has been covered at some point, but I have a question for you... Are you a singer mostly or guitarist mostly? Do you right songs or stick to the ones that are already written? Just give us a brief report on you. If you perform in public say so.
I sing and play about the same. But I lean toward playing while singing. That's what I'm best at. And I do write songs that I've been told were good. But not by anyone who could pay me for them!

Location: Jet City | I started playing guitar 30+ years ago. I started singing while playing less than 10 now. I write music, but not so much on lyrics. Most wouldn't consider that songwriting. Guess I just don't have much to say. I also play in a cover band, but don't always do the songs as written. For instance, I've been working out an acoustic rendition of Prince's "Little Red Corvette". It's a beautiful love song sounding piece... until you get to the used Trojans line. |

Location: Flahdaw | I would say that I USED to be more of a singer than a guitarist, but now that I'm losing my voice I'm more of a guitarist. I'm trying to write songs and will post an original sometime soon. |

Location: Utah | Up into college I was more of a singer than a player, though I had very good instruction in music theory as a kid. Then after college I was more of a player than a singer. Nowadays I almost never sing, but I want to get better at singing.
I perform on and off in various bands or projects. Most normal people can't deal with my irregular work schedule, and I'm not interested in being in a working band that plays in bars/clubs every week. So that leaves me with special projects that I get involved in once in a while.
I really enjoy writing music and recording it in our home studio. |

Location: seattle, wa | I'm old. I've been playing and singing since the begining of the great sneak folk attack of the 50's and 60's. I have worn out many a campfire.
About 10 years ago, I formed a group, along with some other retired gentlemen and ladies. We went on the senior tour. Our plan was to play and sing for senior homes for free but no one would hire us. We started charging $150 a show and we got busy. We got so busy that it wore us out but we lasted for 10 years and it was fun...mostly. We even played in Irish bars. That reminded me why I did not want to play in bars.
I played lead guitar and banjo and would sing an occasional solo but mostly sang back up.
The only songwriting I do is changing lyrics on an old folky protest song to bring it into our present predicament.
Mostly, now I play for grandchildren |

Location: Tennessee | I write my own songs and sprinkle them in with covers that I typically put my own spin on. I sing and I am a guitarist, neither of which I do particularly well. So taking this into account along with my lame-*** originals, I have created a new genre which people call "torture rock". |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | I guess I am, or at least was, more of a Guitarist. I have written or co/written about 30+ songs, but that was when I had something to say. I started out like many others playing other peoples stuff, but I just wasn't that good at copying other people styles. That didn't stop me from doing it or even getting paid for it, but it was hard. I'm not a good mimic of other people styles and well... playing my own songs is just easier. I usually sang when I've been in bands, but again, it's not something I'm that fond of or think I do that well... but it came with the territory.
Nowadays I think I'm just a collector of instruments. I don't play cause it depresses me at how much I've forgotten and thanks to YouTube I now see the songs I used to play would have been a heckuva lot easier to learn (and sound a lot better when I played them) if there was a youtube back then, and I would have learned to play them correctly too.
Hopefully in the next couple of years I will have enough time to and energy to hire musicians to play the songs I have written over the years and get a decent album or two out of it. Don't really care if anyone buys it... just would like to get it done and I no longer have the talent. |

Location: Always beautiful canyon country of Utah | Playing and singing in the 60's. How sweet it was!! But it remains sweet today even though much has changed. And youtube has changed everything. Much easier than it used to be to learn new material. Even free lessons out there!! I play mostly alone but sometimes with friends. The Ovations have taken the guitar part to another level! Sometimes I play just to hear that sweet sound! |
