My all time favorite song.. SRV -- Riviera Paradise
After SRV cleaned up his life, he dedicated this song as an apology to all those people he had hurt through the years. Supposedly, he cut this for In Step in one spontaneous take, and wrapped it up just as the last inches of tape were rolling off the reels.
The first time I heard this song was in 1991 on Johnny Carson's show when he paid tribute to his son who had been killed in a car accident. This song played over samples of his son's photography.
For me, SRV broke the AOR cycle-of-crap and let me straight to the blues masters. |

Certainly one of 'em but there's been so many greats in so many genres I don't even think in those terms anymore. |

| That was fun! Stevey Ray still amazes me with his strength on the 12 string. I think of him every time my hands get tired working out a song on mine! What a loss! Adrian Legg has the coolest tuning....nothing short of maazing to see what he can do with the tuners as well! .... love to see how he chose an ovation adamas for that wonderful bright sound.. Micheal Hedges??? RIP????? Dam... What an interesting style. I gotta get out more! That was fun. Anyone got a nice clip of Steve Howe doing his work???
Thanks for the clips

I think it's on the 2nd WindhamHill "Solstice" album. He plays this "walkdown" on the bass strings, that . . just when you think he CAN'T possibly get a lower note . . . he hits one that just rattles the speaker cones. |

I have to add a couple from two guys I really like. I had no idea they were great friends when I first heard them until I saw them together.
I took my girlfriend to see Jack Johnson last summer....great show. He sure is smooth. You can almost hear the surf in his voice (if that makes any sense). Surfing and the guitar were his great loves growing up. He sure gets to my girlfriend...lol.
Jack Johnson Better Together-Live
His buddy Ben Harper always puts on a good show too. Ben is a very positive guy. His 'Better Way' video is very cool. I think this vid clip is from Bonnaroo...
Ben Harper - Burn One Down
Jack and Ben (on his slide) - Gone
There is music for every mood. After dad passed, I was pretty mellow and reflective...but not sad really. I listened to these guys a lot during that period because the vibe matched mine I guess.

I thought this was a joke at first. It sounds like they just took a bunch of FAUX news headlines and strung them together to make the "Anti-Green Day" song. You are right...I do hate it...because I know better. In the bizarro, Orwellian world we live in today where war is peace, death is life....where we free nations by destroying them, where we install dictators when it suits our purpose then remove them when we need a boogie man to justify our wars....where we accuse those dictators of torture then do it ourselves...where we say our economy is strong yet our national and personal debt, poverty, homelessness, bankruptcies and all the signs of a decaying society are at an all time high...yes...I can see how in this upside down world some may think Bush was right. But I sure as hell don't. These guys and anyone else are entitled to their opinions and to express those opinions in song if they wish...it's America...but it won't be much longer if we don't wake up soon.
I didn't mean to go off on a rant....on second thought...yes I did...but it was inspired by that post/song. I've commented on a lot of the songs posted on this thread...all of it positive because that's how the music made me feel.....except for this one...because that's how the music made me feel too. I couldn't even listen to the whole clip. As mentioned at the start of the thread, we don't all have to like each others songs and everyone is free to post what they like. I'm not upset that it was posted and hope a harsh tone will not be read into this...but the song had a strong message that drew a strong response...that's all. In my eyes...if these guys truly believe Bush was/is right, they should sign up and go fight for Bush's cause. When someone says "Bush was right" they are also saying "the cost has been worth it" (because if it wasn't worth it then he was obviously wrong)...and NO ONE should be able to say another man's life was worth giving up...if he is not willing to give up his own!
I'm a member of a group called "Veterans for Peace". I try to keep my politics out of things most of the time. It can be hard to do sometimes where music is concerned because music expresses life, culture and the times we live in. I'm passionate by nature about many things but none more so than war and the needless waste of life. I truly believe that "man must put an end to war...or war will put an end to man".
"I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its futility, its stupidity.
Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed." Dwight D. Eisenhower
the republican party sure has changed....it's why I left it. I apologize if I went too far here...I just needed to vent.

exactly why we need to keep politics off the board.
you knew that posting that link would provoke a reaction both negative and positive.
perhaps you should post that on boards where politics is the important thing.

Then, I see the Tommy Emmanuel video of Somewhere Over the Rainbow. I realize now that I am still the 12 year old kid I was 30 years ago, plinking out one note tunes in my bedroom from the "Alberts Basic Guitar Method" book.

This is satire, like the Beatles singing How lucky the boys are back in the USSR. It's like when a New Yorker tells someone they are "Really Great", but they mean the opposite. I take no position on whether I agree or disagree.
This begs the question though, when you ignore satire, when does a song become a copy? For instance, does the song My sweet lord sound like another song? For me no, other people yes. |

First, you must use Firefox and with this plugin, you can download the video: VIDEO DOWNLOADER
The video downloaded is ".flv" and you can convert it to mpeg1, mpeg2, avi etc... by using a converter.
There's some freeware who can do that.
I've got one but it's in French... :D

I've downloaded video downloader and it works fine.
But to convert to another format for you Mac users out there, you'll need to download Visual Hub.
It's easy to use (or as complicated as you want) and has a good user manual. Converts to avi, mpg, dv, dvd, wmv, mp4 and even back to flv. |

This clip of Glen & Johnny has what appears to be a early model Glen Campbell Deluxe Balladeer, shiny bowl with a winged bridge? I can't quite make out if Glen's initials are on the 12th fret but in a few shots you can see the large signature TRC!
I'm curious as to why this guitar has a winged bridge vs the 5 point rosewood ones like Wayne's (bluebird) "prototype" and Paul's (moody p.i.) and Dave's (Tuppy) GCDB?
Could this be an early "artist" model?  |

The show originally aired on November 25th, 1970 so that guitar is less than a year old.....depending on when ole Glen took possession from the factory!(he always did get "first dibs" back then......I wonder if he got one of the first reissues?)
Great clip of two Legends.....(and a new GC artist!! :D ) |

Glen played the DB shiny bowl in the first season of the Goodtime Hour (Jan-June, 1969). I think it was at the first of the second season (fall of 1969) that he started playing the GC Artist. |

I taped all the Goodtime hours that CMT aired (I think Johnny Cash is on about 2 of the reruns) and there is a mixture of Glen using the DB shiny bowl and the GC artist.
I'll have to re-watch ;) the shows to see what guitar Glen was playing when Johnny was visiting!
.....I live such a rough life.... :D |

He says the chords are G and D, but I think it's G and C.
Here\'s the song
This shows G and C, capo at 2 or 3rd fret
Sounds a little like powder finger. |

Unfortunately for me, my connection is too slow. Nice to see Kaki, and I heard a little of her great talent. I guess I need a faster connection, but I enjoyed what I saw.
My best comparison is standing outside the naked lady tent at a 1950's travelling circus and getting a glimpse of the decadence waiting inside if you were willing to part with what then was big money for a soldier or a farm boy.
That's all I got then and now.

Page's doubleneck Elite is the 12/6 configuration, 12 on top with a shallowbowl. As I understand it, this design was the benchmark for the later D868-X Elite series shallowbody that Ovation made during the later 90's. Maybe some of the factory folk's have some better insight ;)

This was prior to the introduction of the Celebrity CSD-225 & CSD-255 models.
Page really is the master of the double and triplenecks. I think his brain switches into auto as soon as he picks up a guitar.
p.s. If anyone come's across that gorgeous white doubleneck in the picture, call me...that would pair off my black one so nice :D

Anyway, Doug is a resident in my home town of Portland, and incidentally, my guitar teacher. However, don’t construe that association as having anything to do with my abilities.
So here he is on youtube performing one of his compositions.

Location: closely held secret | There's a free program from SourceForge called FlaskMpeg that will convert from VOB (DVD files) to Mpeg or Avi, and allows you to choose a segment of the VOB file to convert rather than the whole thing. Works ok, if you've got a little time to figure it out.
That leaves you with an Mpeg or Avi file that's still too big for youtube.
So....
I've been playing with some free stuff from divx labs, Dr. DivX and the required DivX for Windows codec.
Seems to do a nice job of converting, you'll have to go to the 'preprocessing' tab under 'advanced' to resize to 320x240 for youtube.
Install the codec first, it may or may not tell you to reboot. Then install Dr. DivX.
Point Dr DivX to the file you created in FlaskMpeg to convert, tell it where you want the converted file, and press encode.
On the encode screen highlight the file and press resume.
If all goes well, you'll have a file suitable for youtube. Good luck! |

Her references to "tear me off the wall" refer to the criticism she is receiving for her going to "the wrong side of the world." Her song puts it all in perspective.

One of the founders of the League is a student of Tommy Emmanuel's and wrote a song for him titled "Tommy's Ramble", a not so subtle nod to TE's "Chet's Ramble", written for Chet Atkins a year after he passed away. At the last League meeting, the song was recorded. It's my pleasure to introduce you all to Loren Barrigar, a great guy who is also holder of the title youngest performer ever on the Grand Ole Opry stage (he was 9 and studying under Mr Atkins and Chet had him on) on "Tommy\'s Ramble" . Enjoy. |

The drumming of the guitar body works for me, only on a limited basis. I appreciate the inovation, but too much of it loses its appeal. He does have very good playing ability. |

You have to throw Jeff W and Northcountry out of the club for
(Northcountry)asking about someone digging up that music video called Apache and then
(JEFF W) for finding that horrific music video and putting on our post.
My curiosity got the best of me so I watched it.I am now messed up for life as those images of that video are scarred into my memory banks.
Northcountry & Jeff W you owe everyone in club an apology for this.
I am going to warn all OFCers about it. GWB |

| Guitar 1580 there is some good stuff there. I have found a few musicians I had not heard of myself in these posts. I had some nice Led Zeppelin live songs before they got pulled. Too bad too. Jimmy was really in a grove to on some of them. I have to go back a review a few. I am working on While my guiar......right now. Perhaps this guy has some helpful pointers.

| Not sure I am trying to figure that out right now. Also I have to make a confession, I found the Kid playing George Harrisons WMGGWeeps I have to admit he made that Uke sound like no Uke I have ever heard! Amazing actually. What a mastery he has of this instrument. I think I will have to cut the Uke players some slack. You have to be real good though. Somebody get this kid a guitar!
Thinking while writing I guess we could get a cheap computer tower and hook it through a good sized screen and copy all our videos on disk format. ?? I don't know, in the end I'll let Aaron do this he is an electronics guy.

| Found a memory!
I faintly remember this song and the project in the 70's but I had forgotten about it until I hit this last night. I am search through this stuff and finding some new acoustic material. Great stuff, roll one up, sit back and give this a listen tell me if this don't bring back the good stuff.

I posted this one some 20 pages ago but it has some similiarities and I am working it out on my 12 now so I thought it might be nice for those of you who have not seen this one.
Try this for a great little 12 string piece from one of my favorite guitarists. It is not as easy as he makes it sound. I have almost got it..........

THANKS for posting that!
I'm a HUGE Al Stewart fan (and Peter White is partly to blame).
I scrolled thru some of the other ones, and found an old "Don Kirschner's" taping of the same song from '77. In this one White is using a 1613 Classical.
It's almost 3am, and I just logged-on after bringing in the guitars from a local solo gig. One of 'em being a 1613 that I have on-loan from Beal. I know a lot of people here a fans of the CountryArtist's, but (for me, anyway) these Classical's just SING when there plugged-in. Got a LOT of compliments on the sound of it . . . |

i believe this was filmed off of maui at a location called "jaws". 50-60 foot waves are the norm during the winter months. the only way to catch them is to be towed in by the jet skis. one of the guys i went to high school with on o'ahu, whose name is buzzy kerbox, has surfed these waves for many years and is featured in several surfing documentaries. |

I've been known to refer to Chet Atkins as "Some Guy" too. Besides, our French friends have already gotten a piece of me. I ripped the tip of my right middle finger tonight practicing Windy & Warm because of watching "those guys" play it. :) It takes a whole new set of calluses to play that way. For now they get a coat of superglue. I've almost got it though. After watching those video clips about a hundred times I'd say Pascal, Pascal & Adrien have a pretty good sense of humor. |

Brad introduced Tommy Emmanuel as a special guest who played two songs, this one with the bluegrass pickers. Shirley filmed this for me.

Lanaki, the Slothead is not blue but "lilas" and was custom made for Marcel.
She's now in a private collection in East of France.
