Location: NJ | Lemme preface this by saying that I never thought I’d EVER be posting a thread such as this, . . . but here’s The Story:
Last Winter, the brother of a VERY good friend of Jeanette’s was awakened by smoke from a house-fire that started from their chimney.
Glenn, his wife and kids managed to escape unscathed, but they ended up literally standing barefoot in the snow in their pajamas watching their house (and EVERYTHING in it) burn COMPLETELY to the ground.
Glenn was (is) a Guitar Teacher by profession, and is very much involved (and I believe Musical Director) of their local church.
The family was taken-in by their church, and was later found a rental home while they dealt with insurance wranglings, and later the rebuilding of their home.
The house has been rebuilt, Glenn was able to acquire replacement guitars in which to work, and their lives have pretty much been successfully put back together.
Last week, Jeanette was having a phone conversation with her friend Linda, and asked how Glenn (her brother) and his family were “doing”. Linda said everything was “fine” and that other than things like photographs & such, their worldly possessions have pretty much been replaced. Jeanette asked if there’s ANYTHING that they might “need”.
Linda’s response was “Music”.
Along with everything else, Glenn’s CD collection was virtually wiped-out, and other things (like stuff for the kids) took precedent in the replacement process. Little by little, he’s been try to rebuild his collection, but it’s been few and far between.
Jeanette and I are working on providing him with some of the more “generic” stuff (Rock, Folk, Jazz, Classical, etc.) from whatever I might have “extra” of, don’t listen to anymore, or burning copies of stuff that’s rare and hard t’come by . . .
Due to his church connection, Glenn was very much into Christian Music – especially Christian guitar music (Phil Keaggy and the like). This is stuff that I don’t have, and the only people that I can remotely THINK of having it, are some of you clowns.
If there’s ANYTHING that fits this criteria that you might be willing t’give-up, PM me and I’ll send you my mailing address, and I’ll see that it gets to Glenn. If you would like to enclose a note to Glenn, feel free t’do so, as I will be forwarding the packages (unopened) directly to him. I just don’t want to post his mailing address on a public Internet site. Just lemme know of the postage costs, and I will re-imburse you.
Please don’t turn this into a “Praise, HolyHoly, HalleFrigginLlujah!!”-type thread.
I’m just trying t’help out a friend and fellow guitar player.
Anything you can help with’d be greatly appreciated.
thx. |

Location: Budd Lake, NJ | I will gladly don a red nose and frizzy wig if it will help Glenn and Carol; he was the lead guitarist in the Christian rock band I spent 10 years in (many moons ago, now), and he is a great guy, as well as an excellent teacher and "thinks-outside-the-box" guitarist. I will go through my stuff; thanks for being willing to be the connection, Cliff.

I am into Christian music myself (even write some of my own stuff) and can provide copies (computer generated by me here) of some to provide inspiration and relaxation for your family. It may not be artist he had, but it will be good uplifting music. |

Location: enid, ok | Cliff-I have 6 Keaggy cds, lots of fusion, rock, and some odds and ends, and I'd be happy to burn any off, no reimbursement necessary. I'd be in dire straits if that happened to me, just happy to help. I don't know what the hell a PM is, but take my moniker and add yahoo and I can be emailed to.
Praise, HolyHoly, etc....(oh!-sorry!) |

The main thing is this stuff is free and legal, and media player will convert it to a format playable in a cd player. |

On a more serious side, has he thought about going the ipod route and loading up that way? I think if I had to recreate all my cds I might seriously look in a different direction to store the music. |

I do have over 40 gigs of tracks tho.. top 500 of all time according to RS... and all the covers I could find for all of those songs... and my vinyl transferred over... along with a lot of Ovation Artists..
my jukebox plays a month without repeating

What I'm cooking up for the next Freddie & The Fishsticks act will put all of us in our rightful place. Probably for good. We're changing the name of the act to Father McStiff & The Alter Boys.

Of course, the rest the story is tragic, and he does have my sympathies. I wish him all the best. |

No matter WHAT you do, you're STILL going to hell. You do know this don't you?
And why did I just accidentally hit two "t's" instead of "f's" when I typed your name? |

I think God, Higher power what ever you call him likes it when people help each other, wanting nothing in return. I`ve not met Cliff but going by what i`ve read here, again not to judge but like myself maybe doing a few good deeds won`t hurt anything ;) |

I'm worrying for ya cliff (but not to the extent of letting it spoil my drinking) |

I went to Dave's Sound to pick up my newly-repaired powered mixer, and since Dave is Glen's bro-in-law (and lives in the same town), I dropped off a sizeable box of stuff for him t'take to Glen.
Some of you guys went quite nuts w/this ('specially Randy in Hawaii), and were all quite generous.
On behalf of Glen & myself, I want to ThankYou All for your selfless generosity.
As for myself, since my Good Deed for the Day is completed, I'm off in search of an old nun and a flight of stairs to redeem myself.
"Blessings" ;) |

The ipod idea is a great one. When we were burglarized a few years back I lost my entire collection as well (about 400 cd's). A good friend took everything he had, loaded it onto an ipod, and gave it to me. It wasn't a ton, but it was enough to help me rebuild.
It was an awesome way to be a huge blessing in my life. To this day it's the act of generosity and compassion that has struck me the most.
Great going, Cliff...you've got a good heart there. |
