| looks like a modern day interpretation of the Nakao series... probably built as a limited run for the Japanese distributor as they did then.
that Legend looks great! and I'm not a Koa fan.
the outlined Abalone epi's on the Elite are interesting. and the way they do the new inlay work I'm sure it's seamless
those are nice.

Location: CT | The top one looks nice... IMO the Custom Legend NEEDS the old larger inlays.. the small ones don't do it for me.
The bottom one would look better (to me) if it had the multi colored wood epaulettes with the abalone trim. The abalone by itself is a bit boring.
Koa LOOKS nice. Ive never played one, but reviews point to it as a darker (duller?) top wood. Make mine a nice tight grained spruce. |

| do the Elite, with the CL inlay on the Fretboard, hand laid contour bowl, and Adamas I style inlaid wooden epi's inlaid w/abalone surrounds like that one.

The narrow design is acceptable only when the center stripe is ebony.
Then again, a narrow skunk stripe is always better than none. |

Location: closely held secret | I'm with ya, Cliff. On that Koa, either nothing where the eppis go, or a different inlay pattern, maybe outlining the sound holes. An outline of an eppi that isn't there just looks silly, there's no other visual clues to explain the shape. |

Location: SoCal | I've never seen a blue Elite T before, just light gray and black. Very stunning. And yeah, Elite T's are spruce, not koa.
Take off the epaulets, use ebony on the fingerboard, and put on gold hardware, and I'd consider one for my next purchase. I already know how good the Elite T sounds acoustically..... |

As to the exclusivity issue on the "N" series, Ten years or so ago when I got my first N769, a gal at the factory wrote me a letter on inquiry that there were 15 sold in the US, the rest of the 230 or so went to Japan. I still have that somewhere.
So a few months ago, I email them again to find out if they had records as to how many black ones were sold in the US. Got an email back that I would have to contact the Japanese distributor inasmuch as they had no records and Nakao was the sole distributor of this item. Sounds like a load of BS to me. They had the records ten yrs ago, enough to tell me exactly how many were sold here. Who should care at this point?
Just got an N768. God help me find out how many of those were sold in the US. I'm pretty sure this one was. Got it from a guy whose Dad had died and knew a lot of dealers.
Why are they so pissy about giving out information? Afraid of being sued after 15 years? Seems silly to me. John |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Most companies don't keep records they don't need. I've defended several that wished they had the records, so I doubt they get rid of the information to avoid suit. Record keeping is a big expense. |

Location: Portland, OR | I would agree with you in a general sense. We have our closed files in storage and many of them are 30-40 years old. But they have kept records on some of the other models. I doubt that the build records on these Nakaos would fill a cardboard box. Still don't get it. |

I've been to the factory and I know the people. They are good people and they keep the records that need keeping. Probably when they were asked 10 years ago, if was just after the guitars were built. Now the records are gone.
I run my own business. After 7 years, files get purged. Otherwise I'd be overrun in storeage costs. I keep what I can on the computer but a lot of the records are actual files and after 7 years, they're gone.
Don't have an attitude about things you don't know about..... |

| I spoke with Rich Hall at Rickenbacker back when I bought my 4080. He told me they were considering doing a research project and have a book printed because of all the tedious questions, they kept getting through the years, concerning serial numbers production amounts and the like.
He has a small staff, like he always has, and tasks like this are a courtesy to the customer but not an obligation. He also told me some of the earlier guitars from the 50's 60's & much of the 70's were all done on paper slips and they are packed in box after box in no particular order. So he gave me what information he had like my double neck Ric was two serial numbers away from the one they built for Geddy Lee and that dated mine at the second month of production for these in 75 If I remember right. This information was only because He had the numbers from the famous musicians on open record.
Rick could actually print a best seller in the music world if he'd let a journalist do this work and take a cut of the finished book. I am not sure if Ovation has this kind of potential but it would sure stop all the tedius questions now wouldn't it?
