New to the forum. However, I've been following Ovation for years. I had a NGD this week (well new to me) where I picked up a used Balladeer Special GCS 771-LX-C. I'm looking for specs on this guitar, just out of curiosity. Thanks for your help.

I don't know specifics on that particular guitar, but let me take a swing based on the model number. What you probably have there is a guitar that was made in a special run for guitar center. It is a standard balladeer cut away with the mid-depth bowl. The LX model designation means it has the advanced neck system and the microsphere bowl formulation. It also has a cedar top. Sound about right?

Sounds about right. There are some threads regarding this model from 2007 about the LX upgrades. also Sweetwater Music has a page dedicated to what constitutes an LX package. It doesn't have all those features, specifically the OP Pro - it has an OP-30 (it says it right on the guitar). Not being an expert, that's one of the confusing things about this guitar - like the old threads discussed.

Personal opinion... I think that the OP-30 is a better preamp than the OP-Pro.
It has a more powerful output, and a nifty selection of shaping buttons.

Excellent! BTW - I already played this morning. I have a Kustom Sienna 30 and it sounded great to me.

Guitar Center had numerous custom models made based on standard models. Thus the GC model number is very close to a recognizable model. The differences I've seen are preamp and the neck construction. Sometimes they'll put on a T neck rather than an LX neck, or they'll go with the Op-30 instead of the Op-Pro. Their version of the 1778LX was called something like GC-178LX and it is one of the very best Ovations I've heard or played.

What you have is a real USA made Ovation of the first quality. Nothing substandard about it in any way.
