What a long, strange trip it's been......so true. Appreciative, not obsessed.

There is Nothing like a Grateful Dead concert.

I have been to dozens of concerts but I have only seen the band once,
and I don't remember any of the actual concert.
The party was in the park outside of the venue.

Sure, I went to my fair share in NJ, NY, IL & FL; even Jerry's last show and The Black Crowes opened too. Weir/Wasserman also. The "parking lot scene" really ended up bringing them down. First, they were discouraged(forced) to spread their show dates around the country to stop touring fans and the drug scene outside the shows just got violent. Many people would show up just to party and score drugs. Maybe rob people too... Even one notable case of murder in NY/NJ.

I got some good memories and t-shirts to boot.

Regards,

BillÆ

Well, Yeah.

Personally, I have never paid for drugs at a Dead show.
I have also never seen anyone sell drugs "successfully" at a Dead show.
(Kinda hard to sell drugs when others are giving them away)

I also had some friends who successfully sold hundreds of Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches at multiple Dead shows. That was how they sponsored their tour. So, choose your product wisely.
(I used to sell cold beer at a dollar a can)

OMA always adds his unique and knowledgeable perspective to the discussion at hand. That said he remains an expert in the art of sandwichry!!

Life-long fan. Bought the skull & roses lp hot off the rack. Godchaux was the new gay a few years later. Saw lotsa shows in the park, Stanford, Warfield, Winterland, Keezar... BTW just bought the Garcia Band Live 2 CD: really good singing and playing. No loathing here!

Bob Weir, Phil Lesh and Tim Flannery sang the National Anthem at today's playoff game in San Francisco.

Here is a link to a video of Weir, Garcia and Vince Welnick doing the National Anthem at a Giants game in Candlestick back in the early 90's. In addition to playing their instruments, these guys could sing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MH8ObibNCoo

RE: Any Grateful Dead Fans on the board?

I know it's not cool, but I never got it. I'll lump them into other supposedly cool things I don't get like Elvis Costello... or the Hot Yoga place at the end of the street... or Fender Strats

The Dead are, well... Dead. But this spirit lives on at any Dave Matthews Band or Phish show.

I'm not going to be argue about the GD; I realize they are something of unique thing. So back to the topic at hand - Ovation Guitars.
Here's a show from Spotify of the aforementioned Mr. Kaukonen during what I remember to be his Ovation years -1979- I'm going out on limb and assuming that this is played on an Ovation - it's a GREAT one IMHO -

Here's a pic from the 1970's. Looks like an Ovation to me.
