yup this is the one that set us all swooning at the factory.

I was able to get it and now you can own it

similar to my original run of 12 but slightly different.

no need to tell you how nice this guitar sounds looks or plays

Al figures the only way you can really appreciate the beauty of this guitar is to see it life size

OK, who are you and what did you do with Mr. Big?

On topic, these are really sweet guitars and this one was first.

Mmmm! I have the 14 fretter. What's different between this and the run of 12 you organised?

Well put, but I meant between it and the other 12 fretters.

One thing, it sez "collectors" on the 12th Fret. I don't believe the KoaLA's do.

But I have been wrong before.

That and a different TRC. I was wondering if that was the total difference or if the bowl is hand laid or something significant.

first I am 100 percent polish

the 12 fret guitars put the bridge back further on the top that gives the top more surface ares to vibrate and increases the volume and tone

I was going to say "at least" half Polish. I'm only half, so Al's got twice as much excuse as I have. The extra surface area under the strings is the logical explanation for why 12 fretters seem to sound better than 14 fretters, all else being the same. One issue I've had with other 12 fretters is playing my occasional song that is up around the 12th fret. The cutaway on the 12 fret LAV Koas solve that issue.

I always thought they sounded better because the bridge was further into the lower bout.

I'm torn between buying this one or the prototype #1 on eBay. I love the restyling and there is something special about the allure of having serial number one. Can't decide... possibly I could ask anyone who has played both of these your impressions? I have three more Dr. Conant 12 fretter slothead dreads spoken for and after they are shipped/paid for I will decide.

Not really (on both counts).

It's not because of the extra surface area under the strings, it's because the bridge is placed in an area of
the top that is less restrictive to vibration.
If you moved the bridge all the way to the end pin you'd have still more surface area 'under the strings', but
get virtually no top vibration.
And then you'd have a 6 fretter. Perfect for Moody, not so much for the rest of us.

I've always been curious about a 12 fretter with cutaway... for right now, it'll remain a curiosity though.

I spoke too soon dammit. Man I wanted that guitar!!! My crewcab F250 beast diesel truck is going to need around $1500 worth of parts then labor on top of that to address a few issues to guarantee me an additional 200,000 miles out of it for towing my RV. I've inventoried my possessions to see what else I could sell to raise the money. My minimalist existence leaves me coming up short by half. I may have to consider a loan to buy it but that's doubtful. We are helping my daughter and her husband make a down payment on a house so I'm forbidden from touching the savings account. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you got til it's gone!

I know how you feel. I ordered 12/12 of Al's 12-fret Koa run. She is a stellar guitar!

After silently following your Conant Quest and your yearning for this 12-fret Prototype, I want to help you acquire it before it's gone.

Just send me the half of the funds you currently have. I'll send Al the 2K for you and Al can ship her over to me in SoCal. When you put together the other half, I'll either ship or drive her over to you.

Now if Dave "Conant" Kell whittles fast he won't need help like that.....but if he does I recommend it be sent to a disinterested third party like myself for safe keeeping.

My minimalist existence leaves me coming up short by half.

Man, times have changed. Remember when "minimalist existence" DIDN'T include a big diesel pickup, an RV, and 3 guitars?

You might consider putting the Allman Brothers blow up doll collection on Ebay....
