Location: NJ | I just got off the phone with Rick Hall and we talked about the Ovation Open House.
Rick does not want to skip a year but wants to postpone the 08 Open House until the Fall. I had a few ideas for a special event and Rick mentioned that He and Paul Damiano would like to go all out this year and make this one special.
What they need is time to absorb what Fender is doing and to integrate all of what is happeing.
For you conspiracy theorists. This by all means does not mean that Fender did not want to have the event or anything like that. It just means that while looking at the calendar and considering dealings in Europe and Asia, they need more time to get it together and make it happen.
Rick and I have some ideas to make it really great and hopefully they will come to fruition.
A Fall date has not been set. It will take some time to get that to happen.
You can stop the calls and e mails now
thanks

Plus, with Amelia Island in March, this makes it so much better for budgeting!
I think I am really gonna try and make it this time! |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Things have a way of working out. When I told my wife about these, she asked, "Why don't they have them in the fall?" This fall would have been bad because we were planning on going to Germany. That's now postponed, so a fall trip is open.
As far as conspiracy theories go, you can take this one to the bank: I said I was going to go for the first time, so they postponed it. "They" (the same "they" as in "You know what "they" always say) figured that if they moved it, I wouldn't be able to find it. So I'd appreciate it if any of you that know the secret password and find out when the tour is and where they moved the factory, let me in on the secret. We Idahoans are full of conspiracy theorists. Some of us have our own governments and money and don't pay taxes. |

To Al-and-the-assorted-organizers-prompters-and-vastly-appreciated-party-planners, thank you; for those of us who have to comply with frustrating corporate regulations regarding applying for time off in the fall and requesting it now, the sooner the magical date materializes, the better it will be for some of us.
(My biggest fear right now is someone else will have already requested "O-Day," and I won't be able to come, after all. :( )

It may be old hat to some of you, but not me. We're talking about taking a week and seeing some of New England in connection with a factory tour. My wife's never been there.
We'll be in Charlotte for a week before the 4th of July. If you did something in Asheville the weekend before the 4th, I'd try to get over, but Miles is hosting the NW gathering the weekend of the 4th and I'm trying to make it back for that. |

I was looking at some maps of New England this noon and thinking about a road trip, but that might suck in a rental car. |

They are having an event with ammounts to trials to be opening/filler acts at multi-day music festival.
The festival itself will have National & International acts and some unknowns. Frank J. Russo is puttting the festival. He is a long time promoter based out Rhode Island formally. I think it has a Southern Rock/Country theme, but I'm not positive.
How manytimes have you gotten a chance to play infront of 10s of thousands of people?
I don't know if you of you remember the old West Harford/Agora Ballroom on Dexter Ave, W. Hartford CT.
My brother was one of the owners there in 1980s.
Thoughts??? |

But the Factory would be nice in the Fall too.

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | Oh, hell ... why don't we all agree to a date amongst ourselves and show up unannounced with a couple 'o kegs and just start partying in the parking lot. We'll blame it on Al ... everyone else does. The suits might be pissed but the llamas will be glad to see us.
Sounds good to me!!! I'm in! |

I know Al would let us know the instant anything was made official.
If it doesn't happen this year, that's okay. With all the corportate drama well behind us, it seems like the Mothership will still be around for the forseeable future. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I have assumed there will be no factory tour this fall and used the funds to buy the LAV Koa instead. I have not told my wife about that assumption, yet, just in case something falls together at the last minute. I don't want to hear about another promise I made that I want to get out of.
The Fall schedule is filling up and we still have a trip to Germany planned for next Spring. I have a trial scheduled for May 18, so it looks like a tour next Spring won't be in the cards for me again. I'm still kicking myself for not going to Amelia, but now that I've met Al, a part of me has been fulfilled. A very small part and I'm not sure which part, but ... well maybe when I go get rid of some of this coffee I won't feel fulfilled at all, but I have met Al. |

Seriously - next May if the Factory Tour isn't reinstated I insist we all head to The Carolinas. Beal obviously did a great job with the Amelia thing and there are plenty of locals to help out.
MAKE THIS HAPPEN.
It's no use taking a poll, asking for suggestions, wondering whether Fender will do the decent thing - JUST FREAKIN' DO IT.
THE CAROLINAS MAY 2009 - JUST BE THERE!!!!!!!!!!!! NO MORE DISCUSSIONS. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I just spent a week in a hotel in North Carolina. That would blow the beer budget. Lets just camp in the woods and drink beer. I really preferred the beer and brats atmosphere at Miles'. When Damon is as high falutin?? as we get with his red wine tastes, the hotel lobby is definitely optional.
Coordinate this with the Southern Jam?? I missed them by a week. |

But we might be convinced to move SSJ3 up a few weeks if we need to. |

We can easily get him picked up, even at the airport, on the 18th and delivered to the hotel on the 20th... |

let's take this discussion to the "other" site so we don't hijack the 08 Tour thread (such as it is) |

It would be really good public relations for them to make good on what they said. Frankly, it's a no brainer. |

Location: GA USA | See the Fan Gatherings section. The "tour" is a tremendous event at the Ovation factory in CT. The gatherings are groups of members that say "Hey, let's get together!" People bring guitars and play songs, drink and make friends.
You could start by saying "I'm in Maine, anybody want to jam?"
I've been a party to a couple of two-person meetups. Historically, any time you have a chance to meet another OFCer, it turns out to be a rewarding experience. |

Location: NJ | It is with much regret that I have to report there will not be an open house this fall.
I contacted Rick Hall and recieved the following.
The Guild move has been a monumental project for the people in New Hartford this year. Not only are they building a brand new production line for Guild, they are also rearranging pretty much the whole facility to accommodate three entirely different brands. Seeing the progress of this over this past several months I can honestly say, when it's all done, the New Hartford factory will be a showcase for high-end USA made guitar building.
That said, the project will not be completed for at least a few months. Unfortunately, our plan to hold the Ovation Open House this fall will again need to be postponed. We apologize to all that planned to make the journey this year and hope to see everyone at the next event sometime after the new year.
In the meantime, please be extra nice to Al. It's not easy being the king of the weird, obscure, lonely, unloved, and of course Vintage guitars!
Thanks,
Rick
soooooooo NO i have not badgered him for a spring date yet!!!!!!!1 |

I would still like to have the tour in the fall when the leaves are turning. My wife would be very happy to see all the colors and when she is happy, ole Stevie is happy!!!! |

| Very good news to hear of the new USA facility! Very exciting to know this big investment is being made in Conneticut for these great guitars to all be built right here. Congrats to the employee's!
So who's hosting a Northeast Gig in the fall? I wish I could do it, it is just not logistically very practicable for me to have it here. |

It's hard enough to pull off two man-cations a year without having them possibly just weeks apart.
Being to close to the Amelia event might effect the numbers for the factory gathering. And we always want to put up good numbers for that.
Then again, isn't fall a busy time at the factory for getting holiday product out the door?
Oh well.. the world does not revolve around my wants and needs. More the pity. |
