Hi, I recently purchased a 1112-2, serial #077328, and acoustically it sounds wonderful. Through the soundhole I can see a wire that appears to go from beneath the bridge and is taped to the back (inside) of the bowl. There are no knobs/pots etc. for tone or volume. I plugged into an amp from the endpin jack with no trouble, but no amplified sound. I am guessing that an undersaddle pick up is either missing or broken. There is no access hole in the back, so when I change strings I will investigate further. Does anyone have info on this model as to electronics, etc? Thanks in advance, Rick

Given, the model # is 1112, & not 1612, I would venture a guess someone put an undersaddle piezo sensor in your critter, & routed it out the tail-end. It seems to be a "passive" system, since there is no battery present. So, when you change strings, just put in a new pickup sensor. If you want to alter your beast, you could get a powered preamp, but that would likely require cutting holes in the bowl. That's a different can-of-worms, altogether. Just installed an OP-14 unit into an old Applause AA-14-1. Got some huevos muy grande now!

Thanks for the info Seesquare, I thought it might be a bit homemade. I have other amplified guitars, so plan to leave this one acoustic since it sounds so sweet, but I was wondering if this model did, in fact, come with electronics (yes, it is a 1112-2). Just looking for history. Thanks again for your feedback.

My first Ovation is a 1612-2, which I purchased new in '77. Deep back, X-bracing and still sounds great today. But what I really like best is that someone decided at the factory to make the red finish more like a red stain as opposed to a red paint. Up close you can see the nice grain pattern of the spruce top.
