Maybe he knew something we didn't.  Maybe it wasn't art, just his opinion of Fender.

LSD's never given me cause to burn up a guitar.

Not necessarily, but in those days Fender was probably quite different, particularly if Leo was still in charge.

I guess I'm even more obscure than I thought... I kinda thought it was pretty obvious... I was wondering if Jimi was thinking that sometime in the future people would want to burn a Fender in effigy and was just showing us how. Sheesh

This group is obtuse that way.

Leo wouldn't have been in charge unless is was before 1965. I personally think he was making a statement regarding corporate ownership (CBS). He'd probably do the same thing today.....

I think it was a statement on corporate business and the way the music world was being affected at the time. Incidentally did I recently hear that that particular guitar ended up as one of Frank Zappa's faves, currently in the collection of one Dweezil Zappa?

New respect??? Nah.
This is why I have no respect for The Who also.
During that time I couldn't afford even a decent guitar and here were these farkheads destroying instruments for show.
I just can't abide by it.

I'm with cholloway. Guitars were not made to be destroyed. If they destroyed a guitar as part of their act, they weren't going to get my money so they could buy another and destroy it.

Jimi burnt that guitar at the Monterey Pop Festival 1967.
The guitar body was given to Frank at the Miami Pop Festival in 1968.

I think...
