Location: Paris/France | Hello,
I'm the lucky owner of a fantastic 1674-4 Country Artist Cutaway from 1983 since few days.
I was looking for that model since a long time and it's now reality.
That guitar don't sound "very good" acoustically but when I plug it in, it's a killer!!!!
She's so easy to play and it's such a pleasure to play it that I don't understand how I've been able to live without her before.
This is my first Ovation nylon string and she will stay as my favorite for years.
Many thanks to Greg (a nice OFCer ;) ) who was so kind to sell me that beauty.

Actually, mine sounds very good unplugged, and heavenly plugged in. Your picture brings up an interesting point. I see yours has a two piece top whereas mine has a three piece top, much like the earlier Ovations when they used the helicopter blade blanks. Anybody know why? Did they run out of larger planks when they built mine?

Beautiful guitar. The Country Artist is different from most other Nylon stringed guitars.
They have a distinct sound that I love. Not really classical, not steel. |

These Country Artists are wonderful guitars!
I do not pick up mine too often...
Country Artist
...but everytime I do I am fascinated by this guitar.
Enjoy it,

Location: Germany | Very nice, Jerome! I just realized that I have never played a nylon string Ovation for more than a few minutes (I think it was Kurt's). Seems I also need to come to Paris ....

Location: Munich, Germany | Speaking about Country Artists (sorry Jerome to rape your thread, but I am sure there will be some nylon guys showing in) - there is something I hate about Nylon guitars:
It takes weeks for the strings to settle and stay tuned.
I bend the strings after restringing for inches, times and times again. But the nylon strings won't settle.
Maybe I do something wrong? Is it maybe too much windings on the tuners (please check with the link above)?
If someone knows a cure - I would be happy to know it.

Location: Boise, Idaho | Congrats, Jerome. My 1624 has more than a few blemishes, but it's also my oldest. I agree they are a bit sparse on the acoustic side, but I had my Classic first and the CA just can't compete with a deep bowl, cedar 12 fret. Frankly, though, the Spanish and Flamenco guitars I played last year sounded pretty weak, so it must just be the small body.
Jim, yours is late enough to be a 2 piece. I think they quit the 3 piece soon after they started in the 60s. Maybe it's just the grain. Look for the seam in the middle of the lower bout. The 3 piecers didn't have that. |

I'm happy for you ... and welcome to the CA club! They are really sweet guitars. |

Location: Orange County, California | Savarez 520P1's are all wrapped, e to E. They settle quickly, hold tune well, and make Ovations sound great acoustically. The down side is that the trebles are thicker than the basses, and have the same texture. What I was looking for was more string mass for my 1763. I liked the results I got. YMMV. Paul Moddy hated them...
You might also tro the JP Thomastic set that has rope-core trebles with a polished nylon wrap. They sounded good too. |

That's what has me confused Mark, mine definitely has two seams, one on either side of the sound hole, (as you can see in the picture) and none in the middle that I can see. Really strange...... |

Kurt Try Hard Tension strings. They seem to settle in quicker. As for too many wraps at the tuner, you could get by with one or two less but I don't think that would be a problem.
But then what do I know I'm only a semi retired guitar geek. :D |

Dave, you're right.
My apartment is near to be a museum especially since yesterday because I've installed a new stuff on my wall. (look at the picture below ;) )
Don't forget that you're always welcome at home at any time!!
The hardest thing was to find a nice woman who love my guitars, The Beatles, my cat and me...
I found her last year so I'm a really lucky and happy guy now.
I've composed a small tune for her that I've recorded with my new CA.
Jean-Luc (a very good guitar player from Quebec/Canada) has added a nice second guitar part.
I've made tons of mistakes during the recording but I love that tune and I'm glad to share it with you all.
It's called "Song for Cecile".
Please, be indulgent because I'm not Mozart nor Chet Atkins... :D
My next Ovation will be a very special one and a culmination for me.
It's a "surprise" and I hope to get it in few month...
