Unscrew and remove the back cover plate. Reach in and hold the metal battery box. With your other hand unscrew the battery box (screw on the bowl side near the volume and tone knobs). Carefully pull the battery box out without yanking the wires. Slide top off of battery box and note the polarity of the battery contacts when removing the old battery. Replace battery and reverse the procedure to re-install.

I did what some would consider the unforgiveable with mine. I installed a different battery compartment on the side so I could just plug a new battery in when I needed one. It sure saved time during a playing session. That was when I DID have a 1537. ):

how long do these batteries on the 1537 last? mine was just changed a couple of months ago and now it's dead again. I played acoustic for years but only recently started pluggin' in.

Shawn...I'm not sure about the 1537 but my 1860 is plugged in just about every day and I last changed the battery eight or nine months ago. It's still going strong.
