I'm really glad I caught his farewell tour.
Even with his condition, it was a great show. |

Location: Taxed To Death State | The strings are so dead they sound like flat wounds. I wonder if these were the ones that were used when he played it on the TNN show in 94. They sure look and sound 10 years old. |

Location: SoCal | Two bits of trivia for you. The first is that when the picture was taken, that the poster is from, the guitar Glen is holding didn't have strings on it. They were added later when the picture was touched up (I got this from somebody who would know).
Second, the 1537, I think, was actually used by Glen in a late 90's Christmas special he did with Colin Raye. It wasn't his guitar and he signed it for the owner after he used it. It was sold on ebay maybe 5-6 years ago.
When you put strings on, try phospher bronze lights. The guitar will sound wonderful......... |

.
Glen's wife and kids attended some kind of altziemers fundraiser and told the story.
To give the family a break from the constant responsibility Glenn spends some time at a care center. (aka: respite)
They said he'll pick up a guitar and play a number of songs just for his fellow forgetfuls.
And when he's done he'll always stand up a thank everyone for coming out.

I'm really glad someone else knows the history of this guitar. The cutout trivia is good info to know as well. You know yer stuff!
I just got done cleaning it, replacing a bent tuner, slight adjustment on the truss rod and strung it up with some new PB lights.
Yup, it sounds amazing and the fact he played it and I own it now is an honor. I will cherish it for many years to come. |

Location: Taxed To Death State | In the case was the eBay auction printout. It actually was auctioned in 2000. The auction ended early so I don't know the final sale price, but it was started at $1000.00. JB says it was sold at a music store called the Music Mart in PA. Back in 84. It's been played a lot from the neck wear on it, but whomever played it took great care of it. I actually think my elite prototype sounds a little better but I didn't buy it for the sound as much as I did for the collectors aspect. Hopefully my son will learn to play. If not in 20 years it will be on evil bay and it will pay for my electric wheel chair! LOL |

Location: Taxed To Death State | Hi Mr. Moody, here is a link to my elite proto. I posted it here back in January.

The pics don't do it justice. It is so pretty to look at.
I've still haven't been able to find anything out about it. Ovation just didn't keep good documentation on the prototypes unfortunately. I have no idea what it was made for since it was made at the end of 1983. JB and I could only surmise it was possibly a concept for a different version of the 1537 or the prototype of the 1718 line. The neck is a v shape and a bit more angle to it than the 1537, feels very different than the 1537 and fits a bit better between the thumb and index finger. Its mono as well.
Supposedly Glen played it but I have no proof of that, but the person I got it from did work at the Moosup plant when it was made. The neck needed a reset and the 13-15 frets were buzzing because it's not a floater board. The service boys went through the whole thing and got it right so now it's perfect. They also repaired a crack in the finish and buffed it out. The herringbone trim, unique orange stain and single piece walnut epi's really make it unique. I'll take a few pics of it with my new 1537 and post them up here. |

Location: Taxed To Death State | Watched the video tape this morning that has Glen playing this guitar and it definitely is the one he used on the show. I can can clearly see the dent in the finish in the bottom upper bout. It's the real deal. I'm relieved. Now I need to transfer the VHS tape to DVD. Only down side.... he plays that guitar FAR better than I ever could. |

Location: Taxed To Death State | I converted the video to DVD, quality is pretty bad considering it's been on magnetic media since 1998. Everyone has a neat tint of blue to their hair any eyebrows. Colin Raye is pretty good too. I'll see if i can post it, might flag some copyright alarms on the tube. |
