All of my acoustics are Epi guitars, I keep a sponge in the case up by the headstock but was curious if anyone does anything different to keep them humidified. I know on the circle sound hole guitars they make plastic inserts that go between the strings. Just curious if I could be doing something better. Up here in New England winter heat can destroy these guitars. Thanks guys.

That's a good way to go if you keep your guitars in their cases. I've heard of people putting the damp sponge in a plastic baggie with some holes poked in it to last longer and keep from getting any water damage. Or in one of those plastic travel soap carriers with holes in it.

For elite-style epaulets, I go with Dampit's ( http://www.dampits.com ) which will let you get the humidifier down through one of the sound holes. But basically the same concept. A sponge in a rubber tube with holes in it.

Best place to start is to get a hygrometer you can throw in the case so you know where you stand. Digital are more reliable than analog. You want to be at least 40%.

along that same idea -- a DIY sponge-in-a-pill-box (or cigar-tube or 35mm film canister) whatever will fit through the epi.

Attach a length of string, tie off to the strap button or around the neck.

Do a search for humidity or humidifier and you'll see that a thread comes up almost every winter. I found the dampits or sponge in the case method to be too costly and time consuming. I bought a decent humidifier with a built in hygrometer and hang all the guitars out in the same room. I have to fill it every couple of days during the coldest weather and make sure I keep the doors to the room closed.
