It's been a while but Jim used to call and say hi every once in a while. I have some contact info somewhere I'm sure.

I talk to him from time to time. He's keeping the buy and sell going over at the AGF like he used to back in the good old days around here.

I know what you mean Mike.
It's kinda like sittin' on the front porch on a sunny afternoon watching a couple guys bet each other they can be the first get across a mine field. And... they're both wearing snowshoes. |

People come, people go
Some grow young, some grow cold
I woke up in between
A memory and a dream
So let me get to the point
Let's roll another joint
Let's head on down the road
There's somewhere I gotta go
You don't know how it feels
You don't know how it feels to be Al.

Location: Latitude 39.56819, Longitude -105.080066 | I remember Jim and dealt with him a few times and thought he was an ok guy.
I also remember how he turned the OFC into his own personal trading post.
I remember how he started hijacking newbies and selling them on his items whether it was what they wanted/needed or not. I remember that he was warned numerous times before being banned.
I also remember that he came back many times under different alias's while continuing to hijack newbies in the welcome center.
I can't say that Jim ever gave anyone a bad deal...actually might have been fantastic but bottom line is that he repeatedly disregarded the rules of the OFC and was given numerous warnings before being banned.
It was during a time of turmoil when lots of the "old guard" packed up and left.....but bottom line, it is a privilege and not a "right" to belong to the OFC and there are rules in place that need to be followed. TJ was a casualty of not following the rules.
Others may wish to dispute my memory and timeline but that is the way I remember it for those who have been asking. |

As far as his trading goes, I might be worse than he is, so who am I to judge? I have little to say about the turmoil a few years back other than that it was a few years back.....time to move on. |

I found him on various id's and I would not be surprised if he is using one of a pal now to log on.
Funny how so many want to be a member of a group they hated so much LOL
I don't even remember the exact circumstances but as usual words were exchanged I was called out on something and I had little patience or tolerance for it at that time.
no regrets just facts.

Actually I liked this whole thread since it deals with a part of the club's history that I was not privileged to enjoy being a relative newbie compared to you guys. I don't know why I always head here right after the news (or sometimes before it). Must be those amazing Ovation guitars!! |

Location: ms | I don't feel I should speak for trader jim or anyone only to say he had a lot of friends here and really missed the OFC badly because of the relationships he had built. He has moved on and is mostly a Martin guy these days, I traded one with him a couple of weeks ago. I don't often post here but I ck out the forum very often, I've just not been active. I logged in a few days ago to sell some air locks that I have no need for and ran across this thread about him. What i do not understand is why someone like steptend28 is allowed to make some of the statements he has about trader jim or anyone with out someone stepping in. His statements seem to go against the rules of the forum, at the very least are poor etiquette. He at the least needs to bring some proof. This is not new for steptend28 because he did the same thing to me for no apparent reason during those troubled times back in the day. The difference and I suppose the reason I was not banned is I called Al and was able to work things out with AL, Miles and myself. The substance of that call is nobody's concern but ours. Steptend28 is acting now as he did then, like someone who is petty and jealous. If for any reason anyone thinks this is trader jim I can tell you first no one uses my id, you can feel free to send me a pm and I'll send you all the contact info you need to find me or will gladly send you my phone number. |

There are people on THIS forum who (based on their forum personalities) I have NO interest in ever meeting. They are probably pretty nice folks in reality, but I doubt I would want to take the gamble.
I've met TJ at a couple of different gatherings. Nice enough guy. Very low key. Likes to buy and sell guitars. ? |

I have to go along with gulfcoast on this . TJ never tried to push a guitar on anyone. Don't think he broke any rules either. |

Strange to say Brad but one of the things that sticks with me from that trip is when your ordered a pizza, went over it at least twice with the waiter, made him repeat the order, and even warned him of how your pizza orders tend to come back wrong. And what happened? Of course... it was wrong. I still remember that look of resigned defeat you had. (forum for two ... pardon us) . |

Stuck with you? Wasn't pizza, it was grits. "Grits on the side" I believe was the first order. Grits came on the plate. "Grits on the side, on a separate plate" was the second order. Grits came on the side... of the plate. "NO GRITS ON MY ORDER!" was the third. Grits came smack dab in the middle of the plate. |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | It was grits for breakfast at the Mermaid. No matter how many times I tried to off the grits, they just kept coming. Alison, you recommended some guy who was not an official locksmith, but you said he "had a way" with things. He showed up ten minutes later, stuck a wooden doorstop in the top of the door jam, then gave it a solid whack with a two-pound sledge. A two inch gap appeared in the top of the door jam into which he reached down and unlocked the car. What a genius. Of course, the door has whistled at anything over 60 mph ever since. |
