| New to this board, but a long time Ovation player. Had a Balladeer that I bought new around 1977 or 1978, later got a Breadwinner. Both sold while I mostly played electrics for many years; then picked up a Celebrity used.
I've just recently bought a 1778LX Elite at GC on clearance. Great deal, but while they showed a case in stock, they tore the place apart (I watched) and they could not find out. Sales guy assures me he will find a case, but it's been a couple weeks.
So I need to find a case. The Ovation site lists the 9158-0 deluxe hardshell as the right case; an 8158 also appears to be a mid-depth case as well.
I would have used the Celebrity case - also a mid-depth - but it didn't have anywhere near enough relief for the straplocks on the 1778LX, and didn't appear to be quite the right profile anyway. Besides, gave my daughter the Celebrity + case.
So my questions:
1. 9158 vs. 8158 - differences, input, opinions?
2. Other cases I am not aware of?
3. Best sources to buy a case? (I'm looking for the new alternatives, already aware of FleaBay and CL)
Thanks in advance for your help/suggestions.

You pay for both, but once you get them, you bring your guitar to the store. The one you like you keep. The other one you return and get your money back. They get stuck with a case they should keep in stock anyway.
Problem solved. Next! |

I know it was clearance special, but they really should make it easy for you to get a case. |

| If you bought from Al you'd have a case.
If you don't get one.. This dealer is not doing the right thing.
Call Al you'd be surprised how often he can get good deals on Ovation guitars. Some that you can't buy anywhere else too.

| Thanks to all that replied. After call #3 to GC guy with no luck, I remembered that there is another local Ovation dealer (from which I bought another Ovation a couple years ago, a classical). Called him up, he offered a better than outstanding deal on a 9158 case. Picked it up late yesterday; I'm all set.
FWIW, the 9158 is apparently made to fit several different Ovations, so with case open, it's definitely not a snug fit on the body end; case closed it's perfect.
