Location: Fort Worth, TX | Waaay too much time has passed since I've owned an Ovation. It sure hasn't been for want of trying. Since learning how pros fix finish cracks I've even looked at quite a few fixer uppers, but no luck. I have been sidetracked by an association with a luthier dwgpreacher hooked me up with. I've now owned three guitars he has built and have sold six for him since he hates dealing with people. The most expensive one was $750 for a new one, and $1600 for the old dread with too much mojo for me to tolerate. In a few weeks I'll have the last of a series of five size 0's to move for him and then I'll be getting a 12 fretter slothead dread based on old Gibson blueprints. I plan to keep that one for myself and sell my Adi/flamed Maple OM that is my pride and joy to pay him for it (he only charges me his material cost, usually around $350). With the change left over I'm hoping to find an O to give a loving home. I'm hoping to find another cedar top Elite like the one I bought that got a huge crack in shipment to me. I should have about $700 to buy one with. I found a cedar top custom Balladeer they want $500 for but it has been sitting high on a shelf for over three years, up where the heat tends to build up. When I played it it had no life, like the top was about to crumble into dust. Too bad though because now I'd consider one of those over an Elite if I could find a decent one at a good price. I find it interesting that when I wasn't looking for an O they were everywhere. Now that I want another none have come along that suit me! |

Location: Fort Worth, TX | By way of explanation, I was having a bout of "no Ovation blues" when I posted this. Those guitars really get into your soul and the association they have with my youth and first guitar hero (GC) really make me feel good to hold one. Lucky I have a small side income from selling Dr. Conant's guitars for him because a disability income doesn't leave much of a toy budget! |
