EXACTLY, Damon! You know, I always liked you because you have sold me so many nice guitars, and I've always liked you because you play such great music, but now, knowing you are a fellow Raiders fan, I like you even more!!

I started watching them in 1966. Rainy day. Nothing to do outside and not much on TV. My sister and I switched to this football game and she said, "I'll take the guys in green." I said, "OK, I'll take the guys in Black."
To this day she is a Jets fan and I am a Raiders fan.
Darryl Lamonica was quarterback back then. Oh so many years ago...

Bobbo, you did some time at training camp? I didn't know you played ball too. Now I know where your boy gets it.
Alison, I grew up at the end of High Street in Alameda. I could look out the 2nd story window and see the Coliseum, just a mile away as the crow flies. Half the team lived in that same part of town and I delivered the Oakland Tribune to several of them when I was a paperboy. This was a bi later though, the Snake/Ghost era... The Golden Madden years, back when we all had things to cheer about and when terms like 'Commitment to Excellence' and 'Pride and Poise' actually meant something.
I might bitch, but it doesn't matter where I live, what the record is, or how many coaches and QBs they go through, i'm a fan till I die. Kinda like Randy Quaid in Major League.

For so many years they were "The winningest team in football". They always will be in my mind.
That is so cool that you got to meet so many of them! I never even got to see them play live, but I never missed a game on TV. It's funny too, when they moved to Los Angeles I thought all of my Oakland paraphenalia would be worth a fortune someday. (Not that I'd ever sell it.) Then when they moved back I thought my L.A stuff would be worth a fortune.
Funny story - when I was a kid I had an Oakland Raiders sweatshirt. I wore it and wore it and it was getting faded and worn out and had some holes in it, but I still wore it. One day I found it in the trash. My Mom didn't want to be seen with me in that old beat up shirt. I dug it out of the trash and washed it and continued to wear it. Next time it went into the wash Mom cut it up into pieces so I couldn't salvage it.

Yeah, you could call it that. Never made it to the official roster, practice or otherwise. Just a walk-on contract for $45 a day with a bed and meals and all the bumps and bruises one could handle. I think I got an extra week because I was such a good live tackling dummy. What a cast of characters back then. The Snake, The Tooz, The Assassin, Lester the Molester, The Mad Stork. And then all the others ... Upshaw, Shell, Branch, Plunkett, Chester, Guy, Marvin, Dalby, and on and on. It was Tom Flores' first year as coach and it's no secret that many of the more colorful players bent the curfew and behavior rules a bit. But on the field, they were all business. P.S. The difference between me and the boy is that Quinn is a good player. ;-)

Quinn is doing very well. Even scored a running touchdown in a bowl game, just like Tom Brady. I grew up in Wisconsin and will be a Packer fan for life.
Back to the music topic, I'm sorry I missed Ann's SSB, but I did catch Brandi's the week before and thought she represented Seattle well. Since when do the singers wear a team shirt?

Jim Otto. My Uncle Don was his insurance agent, in Oakland. I was about 12. BIG DUDE!
I particularly liked the way Blanda showed those youngsters he could still move a team, whenever Daryl pulled something.

I don't know that there was a bigger beast on the planet than John Matuszak. He was 6'7" or 6'8", drove a Monte Carlo with the front seat taken out, and didn't have a nice bone in his body. Dad used to hang with him at Sophie's Cowboy Club in JLS. It wasn't a healthy relationship. I can't remember anything good about him, but I'm sure glad he was on our side.

Fred Biletnikoff - Mr. Stickum.
And later there was Lyle Alzado. It's a shame what he did to himself with HGH, but man, that guy was fierce!
And for a little while we had Bo Jackson. Too bad he got hurt so early in his career. He would have been a good one. Not only that but I have his rookie card and it would have been worth a lot had he continued to play.
